I loved it, Also completely get what you mean by saying Thorfinn is the challenge and that you are Canute in some aspects. So so sooo much in this episode and the commentary only made it better and much more insightful. This reaction was great.

2023-09-02 07:24:59 +0000 UTCwould love to see you react to One Piece since it my fav! Maybe the live action would be a good try to see if it gets received well by your audience and of course if you have fun with the show and if it fits your style of reactions as well.

2023-09-01 13:06:01 +0000 UTCThat's my feeling on it. Never watched or read One Piece but everything I've heard about it makes it sound like it's going strong for a good reason. But it's still such a huge commitment for a reaction channel. If he has the time I would suggest adding a special slot just for One Piece but I'm guessing that isn't realistic.

2023-09-01 01:19:23 +0000 UTC@Jasmine Yeah, I got that.

2023-08-31 22:37:01 +0000 UTC@Chris Not to be dramatic, but I will literally off myself if Goodwin watches all 1,000+ episodes of One Piece on this channel. Hunter x Hunter for 2 years is gonna be bad enough.

2023-08-31 22:31:34 +0000 UTCI also agree that One Piece may not be the best option for your style of reactions. It’s also a massive commitment. I’m only a few episodes into the live action, and I’m not sure I’d recommend it either. That being said, One Piece reactions are definitely channel boosters.

2023-08-31 22:02:28 +0000 UTC@Jasmine Wouldn’t go that far but I see your point. One Piece is far deeper and has so much more to offer than people expect, and has so much more than shallow appeal, but it is a heavy investment.
Chris Sharpe
2023-08-31 21:52:22 +0000 UTC@Chris This is my feeling as well, as someone who has never watched a single episode of One Piece. It would be an absolute travesty if Goodwin was dedicated to just one anime when there are dozens of masterpieces he still hasn't experienced.

2023-08-31 21:50:09 +0000 UTCJust putting it out there that if you did run with the wind I would actually cry out of sheer happiness!

2023-08-31 21:46:19 +0000 UTC@A Goodwin TV As someone who has one piece as their favorite piece of media, I think it would be very difficult to pull that off successfully. Most reactors watch 3-5 episodes a video or do twitch streams where they binge watch/read it. Plus the pacing of the anime slows to a snails’ crawl later on. I think you would adore the series and the characters and I think it’s something you should experience, but not sure if the rest of the channel would agree and might want content closer to what you normally do. There is a metric ton of stuff for you to talk about for one piece overall, but it might be hard to do that on an episode by episode basis (unless you watch 3-5 per day). But if you want to watch the live action I’m sure people would like it and it could help the channel decide if we want the real thing as a demo. I’m sure there could be an appeal to a wider audience with a reactor who has never seen one piece watching the live action if you put that in. But I’m clueless on the nuances of content creation, so I’m not sure. Up to you.

2023-08-31 21:11:55 +0000 UTCMe Goodwin sir, in one of your reactions to vinland saga you said running away is very hard and I was like OMG how does he know😂😂 great observations and comentary you are the best

2023-08-31 21:09:24 +0000 UTCThe only idea I really had was One Piece, given the new Netflix release. But... Yeah I still have all the same reservations

2023-08-31 21:01:04 +0000 UTC@A Goodwin TV Neat! Although I doubt anyone would complain if you just said something like “I’m gonna react to run with the wind” or something else. But it gives other voters a chance which I’m glad for.

2023-08-31 21:00:00 +0000 UTCI'm planning poll. I should do that this weekend actually...

2023-08-31 20:54:52 +0000 UTCRandom question, I know HxH will replace Vinland after next episode, but what about Haikyuu? Do you have a show in mind or will there be a poll?

2023-08-31 20:52:58 +0000 UTCTo say this show is incredibly inspiring would be an understatement. It's honestly difficult for me to put into words exactly why I love it so much, but I also feel that the show does such a good job of that on it's own. Maybe it just feels very human, in the themes it presents and the characters it presents them through. It's so easy to understand each character and why they do what they do, because it's been presented so well over the course of the show. I've been trying to think of more to add for the past 10 minutes, but like I said, it's a challenge for me to put it into words. One more episode until the wait for season 3!

2023-08-31 20:39:44 +0000 UTCThat sounds awesome. The music is one of my fav parts. And a big reason why it was a really formative show for me back in the day. Chainsaw Man has kind of served as the modern day version of it for me as an adult now.

2023-08-31 20:33:12 +0000 UTCFLCL is one I revisit pretty often (partly cause it's such a quick watch). I actually got to see the pillows in concert in NYC a few years ago

2023-08-31 20:19:09 +0000 UTCI've actually seen it. The thing is it was so long ago that I barely remember, so a rewatch is on the table

2023-08-31 20:17:16 +0000 UTCAbsolutely loved the commentary on this one. This episode speaks to me on so many levels. It’s obviously impressive from a animation/voice acting/writing perspective, but it speaks to something real. It’s hard to explain, I just feel it in my gut. When I first read this story, it joined that upper echelon for me. Like, there’s many truly amazing and beautiful stories out there, but there’s just a number of them that I feel changed my perspective and trajectory dramatically. Haikyuu, Re: Zero, FLCL, Hunter X Hunter, Chainsaw Man, Bleach, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Vinland Saga. It’s also awesome that you’re watching Haikyuu alongside this.

2023-08-31 20:12:32 +0000 UTCNot entirely related, but I wondered if you've considered reacting to Code Geass. The main character is one of the most beloved in anime, and he shares a lot of similarities to protagonists like Eren and Light Yagami, with some key differences in how he ultimately achieves his goals. I'd be super interested to hear your commentary on the themes of the show and in the ideals of the protagonist.

2023-08-31 20:11:45 +0000 UTCThis show has a way of making you feel and reflect on things that you could probably go your whole life without really thinking about. I really think people's lives are better for having watched it. It makes me so mad to think of all the people writing off this season as boring or slow--even moreso to think of the people that refuse to acknowledge animation as a legit artform (yeah I'm looking at you, my friend who won't watch Vinland because "I don't watch cartoons") 😤

2023-08-31 20:00:56 +0000 UTCWhat a beautiful episode. And I love how Yukimura ties in little bits from actual history. Canute removing his forces from England and becoming a more trusted king was a real event. Some people say it was very sudden and easy however as you’ve been saying for a while, Canute still had some good in him this whole time. He wasn’t too far gone.

2023-08-31 19:47:01 +0000 UTCAlso here’s some missing narration from the manga to fully close of farmland saga 🌾🌾 “Ketil later recovered from his wound… but he lost his bountiful appetite for work and entered retirement. Stepping in for Ketil to clean up after the battle and manage the farm was his son Olmar. Olmar paid a sizeable reparation to the families of every man who was wounded or killed in the battle. The payment cost Ketil’s farm half of its land and wealth. Thorgil left the farm but never returned to Canute’s service. He left alone and was never heard from again.” Looking forward to watching this peak. Still have to catch up with the haikyuu greatness too!

2023-08-31 19:12:53 +0000 UTCYeah it's apparent how much effort and thought went into the adaptation. They clearly really love the source material and had a deep commitment to honoring it. "I like to talk" - another point of kinship I have with this man

2023-08-31 19:12:53 +0000 UTCYukimura Twitter thread for 2x23 “Thank you for watching Vinland Saga Episode 23 ‘Two Paths’! The main character who resolved the confrontation with the last boss demon lord through discussion. According to story-making theory, this is the scene where either Canute or Thorfinn should fight to the death. We talked instead. What a serious job. I’m a manga artist and an amateur at anime, but I can see that this anime was made with a lot of seriousness and sincerity. Everyone on the staff thought so hard that their brains would burn, and they would draw so much that their hands would break. Thank you. Badger was in the field work scene! I didn’t draw him in the original because he only has one hand now. He couldn’t pick up a hoe. So he was picking up rocks in the field with his unharmed hand. Anime takes care of the little things that I left out. Ketil’s wife is close to him at the end. Seriously feels more complete than the original. Olmar’s lover, Oddney, is also helping with the farm work. What is this, ah! I should have drawn this! If you read Vinland Saga, it means that you know me. Furthermore, the act of outputting it as animation, after consuming it, it leaves me completely naked to you. I can’t believe someone listens to me so hard. Very appreciated. I like to talk. I want to talk a lot and want someone to listen. Thanks to the anime, people all over the world listen to me and my story. Director Yabuta sent it into the world better than the original. I couldn’t do it with just the manga. There’s still one more story to tell. Good deal! (Seriously this man is too humble! But I do agree that he is soo fortunate with the adaptation of his work. Seinen rarely get the star treatment, and the fact that this core team specifically stayed on even with the studio change tells you everything. They LOVE this story. And they CARE that it gets adapted phenomenally)
