In Haikyuu 4x5, Hunger, Coach likes his character arc like he likes his alcohol, currently waiting for it.

Am I the only one who's not seeing episode 4?

Ana

Yea that makes sense to me, I dont like lebron tweeting some stupid things, but I think he is great player. I totaly forgot about this comment πŸ˜†

Marko

Yeah it was Lebron. Can't remember exactly what I said here but my sense is that part of people's mixed feelings about him isn't about his accomplishments or work ethic, but weak messaging compared to other greats. For example, complaining, switching teams, etc. I don't follow the NBA so I could be totally wrong but just the sense I get from what I hear around me.

Alex G

Pretty sure he meant Lebron. Jokic hasn't won that much yet. But I'd disagree with Lebron having not put in the work to remain so dominant for so long.

Rayn

Idk If you will see this but is the basketball player you are talking about in this reacton Nikola Jokić?

Marko

Again, I love ensemble shows that have a whole slew of characters that develop with one group and then they mingle with others to get different dynamics. It's so fun. Like we got to see our Kageyama interact with high level players and hear/see what they think of him! I love the perspective shift where we question our own thoughts about the character we've been with for so long, Is he really a goody-two-shoes? What makes him a goody-two-shoes? What is the team going to think of him once he's back?

Athena

I like that in this show if anyone is antagonizing another all it's really doing is motivating them and making them think deeper rather than hurt or actually insult them lol Except in Tsukki's case towards opponent teams where he's actually trying to irritate them to the 10,000th degree!

Athena

Fun fact, Hoshiumi (white haired little giant) has his appearance based off of a seagull, which is the mascot of his team.

Chris Sharpe

That's unfortunate but at least he still nailed the superior than everyone vibe

Alex G

Very much agreed on Lebron and Shiratorizawa, and yeah, Kageyama's journey is so interesting and complex. How do you push people to be the best without pushing them away? Especially when your communication skills are a work in progress. I think other people will talk more about this, but how I think of it is that Kageyama's pendulum swung from one extreme--yelling at everyone for not doing exactly what he thought--to essentially the other, trying to take on everything himself and just do what the spikers want already. That's talented, but doing that doesn't help the spikers or the team get any better, and that way he won't get the chance to run new plays or the plays he wants unless the spikers already want it. He's being 'obedient' to them. A few notes: - Double word play from this episode. First, the title, "hunger" is 'kuufuku' (η©Ίθ…Ή). The characters literally mean empty+stomach, but the first one, η©Ί, also happens to be the character for 'sora,' which means "the sky." Later, at 19:20, the word Coach Washijo uses for 'hunger / starvation' is 飒え, 'ue,' which happens to sound just like the word for "up" (上, also 'ue'). - Hoshiumi (the white-haired "anime" short guy) has the same voice actor as Tanjiro, which I find hilarious. - Miya Atsumu (the blond "Goodie Two-Shoes" guy) has the same voice actor as Yagami Light from Death Note or Doma from Demon Slayer. Except in Haikyuu, his character speaks in a THICK Kansai-ben dialect. (Ex: 14:12 "I know, right? Anyone who can't hit my sets just sucks." Miya's version: 'sei yaro. ore no setto utehen yatsu, tada no ponkotsu.' Tokyo version: 'sou daro. ore no setto utenai yatsu, tada no kuzu.') So, from his first sentence, you're supposed to know he's from somewhere around Kobe/Osaka. Obviously, the voice actor--Miyano Mamoru, from Saitama just outside Tokyo--is a legend in the field, and I think he plays this character's emotions and personality really well, but honestly his dialect imitation is terrible, haha. It's like me trying to imitate a British accent. It just sounds weird. One of those things where they went with the big name instead of someone from the actual region to represent, which is too bad in my opinion.

Kindaichi's lingering unexpressed feelings about his time with Kageyama in middle school is one of my favorite recurring threads in this show
