He kinda reminds me of Askeladd in a sense, where he isn't the best, most skilled or powerful blocker, but is so observant and knows how to predict and use different people's plays and moods for or against them to gain points. His volleyball isn't straightforward and his plays are subtle that it's almost easy to oversee it. I love how we see mindplay also play a significant role in volleyball games.

He may not be the person thats shining in the light all the time but you always see him getting that crucial touch to keep the game going, or being the first person to hype up his teammates. While i feel like some characters fade into the background a bit to much like Daichi and Tsukki, I think Tanaka is the background, cause he will always be there doing something to keep us going even if he isnt the best at everything others can do

I just try to think about what the flashback is trying to teach the character/team and that it definitely has importance if Furudate (author) put it in. To me the game is on pause when we get a flashback lol hopefully they'll start to grow on you!

2023-04-28 03:38:15 +0000 UTCRewatching the show, it's funny how 'dense' things are, with everything like Tsukki's little reaction at 3:22 coming back as a plot point. I think it's particularly fitting that the person who needs to find out how to work with others and why teamwork is worth the trouble it causes is called Kyou-ken, Mad Dog, like someone who got lost from a pack. I really like how the conclusion of Kiyoshi (Mad Dog's sort of mentor in the stands) was that, if he was able to find that sense of belonging, he should know he's lucky. Even if you do everything right, you might not get that.

On the real though I just love how Haikyuu puts so much emphasis on the character relationships in other teams. It's always such a pleasure to understand the team you're watching the main characters fight against and their motivations.
