@Ryan You're so right. I forgot about his doo doo personality at the beginning lol Then maybe it's better to say that Karasuno is the fertile soil (👀) Kageyama and Hinata needed.

Awesome video, amazing show ty so much as always for your commentary. The 2 shows that seem to constantly get me randomly emotional are Haikyuu and MHA, so damn good. Oh btw the clips right after they show the starting rotation on paper are them actually lined up as the paper specified. This is my 2nd watch through and my 1st time I paused on the paper with the names too and didn't realize it shows us how it looks with them lined up right after lol.

2 things I forgot to mention. :/ 1) May as well keep up with the Noya shirts theme. At 4:48, it's 四面楚歌, "shimensoka," "four-sides song of the Chu people." It's an idiom from one of the many periods of civil war in China, where a city was surrounded, so instead of fighting and just casually slaughtering thousands, the invading army surrounded the city on all four sides and blasted the battle song to show how overwhelming their power was and force the citizens to surrender without bloodshed. Nowadays, being in a "shimensoka" situation means you feel cornered on all sides like nothing you do is right. The second shirt at 15:05 is 徹頭徹尾, "tettou tetsu-bi"--all the way to the head, and all the way to the tail. In other words, completely and thoroughly, without leaving any stone uncovered. 2) When you talked about MHA at the end, a VERY large number of voice actors overlap (with the Japanese version. Don't know if it's also true for the dub). Some of them have been mentioned already, like Nishinoya = Bakugo. Two new ones this episode, and then a couple that might not have gotten as much attention: - Kenma = Todoroki (= Eren Yeager) - Kuroo = Hawks (= Gojo from JJK) - Asahi = Tokoyami - Ennoshita = Kirishima - Tsukishima = Shigaraki

Finished season 3, feeling good.

Suga is top 5 for me.

That's all *if* Kageyama found some outlet for his talent and someone who could keep up with him. Without Hinata, Kageyama would've also struggled interpersonally, and might not have been on the starting roster until his 2nd year even. It's hard to say, but he had a very different but equally long path to get to where he's worthy of a starting spot.

Ryan

Furudate actally made a horror manga before Haikyuu, so that "ghost" scene is probably a little homage to his roots :)

Language/culture notes: "Gasshuku," or the "training camps," are one of the highlights of being on a club in Japan. Even brass bands or even drama clubs will sometimes have one (often shared with other schools in the area). It's basically an extended sleepover and intensive training session, and it's a sort of formative experience for many Japanese young people. 17:00 I don't like the translation "pathetic" for 'nasakenai.' It literally means 'not deserving of pity,' but it comes from the idea that, if you do everything you can and still lose, then you deserve 'nasake' or sympathy. If you didn't do all you can, or you think you should've done better than you did, then you feel 'nasakenai' because you expected better of yourself. That's what the 2nd-years call themselves. The word is really common across anime, and it's hard to translate as one English word, but it's basically when you're disappointed in yourself. 14:06 Daichi's "I'm going to get fired up" --> It was a command to Asahi. Like, "we've gotta step it up [for Suga]." Names (I know the large number of names can be a little overwhelming. It'll get easier, but I like that it's realistic in that people are called their last name by most people, their first name by other people, and a nickname by yet other people. That's how things really are in Japan, so it gives a good feel for how clubs really go) All of the names on Nekoma except for two are related to cats. So far, we've seen: - Kozume Kenma (yellow-haired short setter) ("Kozume" = lonely+claws) - Kuroo Tetsurou (black-haired tall captain) ("Kuroo" = black-tail) - Yamamoto Taketora (guy who gets jealous of hypothetical female manager) ("Taketora" = wild+tiger)

Ryan

Yes, Suga is my personal favorite. 🙂 He gives the impression right now of being mature, selfless, forward-thinking, and supportive, but he's also a goofball when he can be, and I like that.

Ryan

yeah kageyama has been established based off how coach's of other teams and players of other teams talk about his skill, dude is clearly one of the best highschool volleyball players in all of japan. kageyama on a different level than everyone else on karusuno.

HERE HE ISSSS my favorite Haikyuu character kenma i love this boy so much

Mima

You're right in that Hinata is the other half to Kageyama. However, if Kageyama was not on Karasuno, Hinata most likely would not be a starting player because of his lack of basic skills such as passing and blocking. Kageyama on the other hand would be given his starting position due to his talent and overwhelming skill. This is Hinata's first official team so he has a lot of growing to do (I'm not talking about your height, Hinata!).

Athena

its a very good show, yes
