Geneva The Weeba

Cmon Geneva if anyone here is worthy of Royal Goodwin channel status its you lmao

benj

Wow, to be called based by benj himself. Much appreciated

Geneva The Weeba

LMFAO "The Mormon in the group" Right, cause every friend group has to have a least one mormon in it. /s Sounds like a fun time. Also its awesome you don't have social media or watch the news, pretty rare to find people nowadays especially young people who are like that. Very based indeed.

benj

HA, no, nothing like that, my friends are just a little out there. There's one couple in the friend group, but we just made fun of it the whole time. We've got a picture of the Mormon in the group giving a thumbs up in front of the screen during a ~spicy~ scene, which is one of the funniest things I've set eyes on. Good times

Lmfao what a wild ass movie choice for a watch party with friends. I never realized people could watch that movie with someone other than their significant other. Unless ya'll were having THAT type of watch party...

benj

and now I'm all caught up so I'm off to go watch and read the entirety of Vinland Saga before the 6th. hehehheh

“My childhood in a cult,” “What are they, burning books? It’s all pornography. Burning all the copies of 50 Shades of Gray because it’s pornographic? Seems like something Iino Miko would enjoy,” (fun fact: my high school friend group did a watch party of the movie a few days after graduation) “Using Google is just an experience of realizing that so many people have tread path I have tread before,” “The connection is they both contain words,” (catch me using this in essay comparisons) “Now we’re BOTH in love with senpai,” “Just crush it in one thing, then live in that world,” (You are not the only one, Goodwin. I’d be lying if I didn’t take some pride in being the sole person able to perform X activity in my family, school, or community, even if it’s something remarkably trivial) “It’s a pre-existing condition, being an insect,” “~Winnie the Pooh~,” “He is relentless in his desire to do things well,” “Great Mother Chika,” “Shades of Gregory’s ass chair,” (Wait do you mean from Attack on Titan?? :sob:)

Geneva The Weeba

@Goodwin Yeah its incredibly tragic. All these innocent people going to their job for years every day, working on incredible art that MILLIONS of people around the world have gained so much from end up being murdered for no reason in the same place they made that art. The sheer loss of talent that humanity lost that day should've made a much larger international story, I mean imagine if Disney Studios or Marvel studios were burned down and everyone died while they were making the new Avengers movie? We would never forget it and the media would never stop talking about it for years and years, but because it was some random Japanese studio, it was a 3 day story and that was it.

benj

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Animation_arson_attack Yeah literally the worst thing to ever happen in the history of animation. 36 people were killed in the fire, making it the deadliest massacre in Japan since WW2 and deadliest massacre against an entertainment studio in the entire world. Dozens of genius animators, script writers, and directors were lost forever, their art the only thing left behind for us to enjoy and appreciate. I agree than K-On! and A Silent Voice are even better than VE, but they are all 9/10's and higher or in K-On!'s case a perfect 10/10 masterpiece all time iconic forever anime changing series lol. I love that those are the two other works you've seen by KyoAni, because they are both created by my favorite artist of all time, Naoko Yamada. She is the greatest animated tv show/movie director of all time. The only stuff you are missing from Naoko (in terms of shows she is the head creator/director of) are the shows Tamako Market and Hibike! Euphonium. And don't worry, she survived the attack in 2019 and is still very alive, but she did leave KyoAni for obvious reasons which is sad but totally understandable.

benj

Wow I didn't realize it was that studio

Alex G

gosh DANG that's sad. I don't have social media, nor do I watch news, so I genuinely had no idea. I have seen K-On and A Silent Voice, but VE trumped both of them imo. And most of the rest you listed I do plan on watching eventually. My MAL account has a ridiculous amounts of shows in the plan to watch section lmao

Geneva The Weeba

For sure. Kyoto Animation shows are the pinnacle of depicting human emotion. If you love Slice of Life or RomCom's, Kyoto Animation make by far the best within that genre. Have you ever seen A Silent Voice, Clannad, or Chuunibyo? Or any of the other shows I listed in my previous reply? I cannot stress enough, if you really loved Violet... some of these shows are even better. Some of them MUCH better in my opinion. The artists working in that studio are just special, unfortunately most of them were murdered during the 2019 Arson attack where some psycho lit the studio on fire trying to kill everybody. A lot of the people who made Violet Evergarden burned alive in the same rooms they drew the show in for years. Sorry to get super dark, but this studio just deserves all the recognition and praise it can get especially due to the fire which they will never recover from.

benj

I loved Violet Evergarden! The animation itself was a nice plus, but it was the story and remarkably realistic human emotions depicted that made it great for me

Geneva The Weeba

Love the pfp Tispy. I thought about using that gif before for my pfp as well. Looks so good.

benj

What did you think of VE??? Its one of my all time fav anime's. If you liked it a lot, I reccomend watching other shows made by Kyoto Animation like Violet. (K-On!, Hyouka, Haruhi Suzumiya, Hibike! Euphonium, etc. etc.) Easily the best studio in all of Japan.

benj

Yes I'm behind, BUT I have a good excuse: watching Violet Evergarden and Vinland Saga so I can keep watching Goodwin reactions as they come out (just finished Violet Evergarden and am very psyched)

Geneva The Weeba

So excited for these reactions to the second half of this season!

Tispy Wombat

I like their work ethic. They get done in 1 day what would take a normal person 8 years. I just wanted them to get some rest. Like, when did they have time to sleep?

Alex G

Yeah the joke with Miko is that she is actually the most perverted/sexual out of all them in the Student Council. Even Ishigami warns her in S2 when the Principal was doing the photoshoot with her, "hey miko, if any shady guys ask you to do a photoshoot, dont talk to them" or something like that. Miko is really easy, all you have to do is compliment her and she'll be all yours.

benj

Let's be honest, Miko would never attend a book burning of 50 Shades of Grey. After all, they made it an in universe joke that she reads the thing despite her ramblings about "pure love not tasted by lust" (or, well, the anime knock of brand version, "50 Shape of Love" (in singular, not plural, very important))

Herman

Watching Goodwin slowly discover Chika isn't the perfect goddess he thought she was is truly hilarious.

benj

my man

DefaultGoblin

And they also have an entire spinoff Manga titled "We want to talk about Kaguya" which covers a lot of the same events in the main series but from the perspective of Karen and Erika instead of the Student Council. We also get a lot more of Maki and Nagisa in that manga becuase they are close friends with Karen and Erika as they are in the same class.

benj

Your comments on these Kaguya reactions have been a true blessing. Everytime I think about commenting about something but don't because I've already commented multiple times, you come in and say exactly what I wanted to but couldn't say as well as you. Rei Onodera is also one my fav side characters, being a manga reader and all. I love her level headed personality and any comedy involving her character always lands.

benj

MOMO!!! <3 Momo also has a very important connection to the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, but saying anything more will be major spoilers for this season.

Hofitel

Fun fact: the Mass Media club, Karen and Erika, are the first characters to have spoken lines in the entire series. (Not counting the narrator) They were the ones fan-girling over Kaguya and Miyuki in season 1 episode 1.

Hofitel

Rei Onodera was not wrong about Miko. Miko assumed the cultural festival committee was not taking things seriously just because their slogan suggestions seemed to be just jokes. But they were being serious with their work. Just because something is silly doesn’t mean it’s bad (see Kaguya-sama as a whole). I love Miko, but her flaw is that she doesn’t see things from others’ perspectives. She believes in only one way of doing things and forcing her ideals on other people. This is why Onodera calls her out. But once Miko started backing her ideals with solid ideas and actions, she earned Onodera’s respect even to the point where she supported Miko in the very tiring task of visit every house in the neighborhood. Rei Onodera is lowkey my favorite side-character. She seems really antagonistic at first, but she is actually very level-headed and is a cool person to have supporting you.

Hofitel

Oh my god Alex watches Ozark lmao I gotta know what he thinks about my boy Marty?? Or WENDY

BRus019

It was actually the 5th Chika-Miyuki teaching segment. Volleyball->Singing->Dancing->Rap->Balloons

thegreatquack

As the viewer, alongside Ishigami himself, watches Tsubame in her gymnast clothes do her stretches and poses, it becomes very clear how high our boy is aiming. Tsubame has a nice ass, great personality, and she is in the top 10 academically in her class. Just a straight up worldie.

benj

"and eventually econ" so you could realize all of our perceivable reality is a 2d axis? I guess Phil will feed into that eventually. I kid.

Matthew B

Instead of getting a real therapist, I just watch Goodwin videos 😎

benj

Why aren't you a psychotherapist lol. The best job you could have basing on my judgment of not knowing you at all other than watching fun videos. That should count. Just don't betray your clients like you do me.

Matthew B

Pretty sure this is Momo’s introduction in the anime, she is an under rated side character imo. I love how all the students at Shuichin are protagonists of their own insane anime. I believe she is the daughter of a major Yakuza boss. Her bed that she is laying on lookin’ hella sus tho… Also she is voice acted by none other than Saori Hayami herself! The same VA who does Yukino from Oregairu, Yor from Spy x Family, Shinobu from Demon Slayer, Shouko from A Silent Voice, Megumi’s Sister in Jujutsu Kaisen, and so many more amazing roles.

benj

“Says the girl who does things that could produce children”- Lmao this is a great line from Chika that in the manga is actually a lot more savage… “Yeah, well you’re the top contender for getting knocked up first…” Chika has no boundaries when it comes to entertaining herself, I love it.
