Kaguya Sama 3x2 Reaction Extended (YT link below)

I have a theory that Japanese VAs are particularly good at singing because the Japanese language puts a lot more emphasis on pitch and clear enunciation than English. English has a lot of "lazy" sounds whereas in Japanese everything is much more clearly articulated. Not saying every Japanese person can sing, but I have a feeling that gives them a stronger baseline advantage. Also VAs by their trade are in control of their voice so I think that helps too

Steve.

Very touching episode. Can’t wait for you to see more.

VA's are good at singing cause VA'ing doesn't pay well so they do a lot of different types of work/voice work.

> just really poor localization. They knew exactly what they were doing there

The reason Hayasaka complains about Shirogane being too "big" is not because they were intentionally choosing a more suggestive word, but because that's actually how you would say it in Japanese. They don't have different words for "big" and "loud", if you wanted to say someone was being loud you would say they have a big voice. It's an accurate translation, just really poor localization.

Miko's face while she's shooting in the ED (around 28:00) is the funniest thing to me and I don't know why

thegreatquack

Totally agree! Kaguya and Hayasaka essentially grew up together under the twisted ways of the Shonomiya family. Realizing that Miyuki does a lot of hiding himself gives new context to the Chika training episodes. What seemed like just a funny running gag at first has much more depth to it.

Hofitel

Love this breakdown, couldn't agree more. This seasons ED is something truly special. I will cherish it forever.

“No one will ever love you unless you’re acting. You have to envelope and hide your weakness and ugliness inside that act or you will never be loved” Sad because you can tell Hayasaka genuinely believes that. While this wasn’t directly stated in the anime it was revealed very early in the manga that Hayasaka’s been working as Kaguya servant since she was 7 years old and her whole family works for the Shinomya clan. From what little we know about Kaguya’s family, it’s not hard to see how that worldview would develop. I like that line from Hayaska made Shirogane look into his own behavior. While the audience and Chika see Shirogane’s train relentlessly to overcome weakness Kaguya and his other peers never see that side of him.

“Who are you? Who-Who are you? I know who *you* are. Show-offs,” “The infinity of teenage angst and romantic desperation,” “Ooh, mutual struggle!” “Ishigami took a leap of faith and, like, fell. 100 meters to his death,” “But the question is, are we getting oxytocin? Are we getting sufficient oxytocin?” “And autotune. For some reason,” “Oh it’s a mixer! It’s a dating event, disguised as a casual activity. Like *every* activity,” “I mean, she’s very shapely. I mean, we all saw the OVA,” *SHARP INHALE* “You follow the rituals of something, you act something out, it becomes real to an extent,” “Ooh, he saw right through it. That’s kind of alarming. And also charming,” “No, don’t you know what dating is? You hide your worst traits until you are in a relationship. Then, once they’re locked in: BAM. That’s when you can let it all out. It’s just Effective Dating Strategy 101. These kids have so much to learn,” “I will say, from experience--as weird as that is to say--you can make a night of going out and telling people you got dumped,” “Do it! It’ll be fun for *us*,” “And you thought the OVA was where it all went down,” “He’s an Attack on Titan famer,” “Sometimes the people who are the most controlling, or who are grabbing onto power the strongest, are the people who feel the least control,”

I think this was her most interesting episode, at least as far as I can remember. For me the chemistry was really convincing, as was the feeling that it was more than just a task or even her trying to teach Kaguya a lesson. So there's something both sweet and sad about it, and also just a little bit bizarre

Alex G

That is awesome! Sounds like a lot of fun. I had a lot of "debates' with my dad but it wasn't always a pleasant experience. But later I realized what a gift it was to have someone who wasn't afraid to push me and challenge my ideas.

The season 3 ED might be the best ED I’ve ever seen. Certainly, it’s one of the most creative. There are so many layers to it. - A sequel to the season 1 ED - A visualization of Miyuki’s declaration back during the moon viewing episode to go and get back Princess Kaguya from the moon - In the original tale, when Princess Kaguya puts on the robe of the moon, she forgets about her time on earth. In this ED, Kaguya is made to wear a crown (and adopts a villainous persona) and Miyuki breaks her trance by going to her and replacing the crown with her signature red ribbon - A freakin’ Starship Troopers parody!! - References to video games like APEX (the Mangaka’s favorite) - Gorgeous animation - A great song with lyrics that are very relevant for this season - Many other little details that tease events in this season and later on in the manga How they blended everything together so well is amazing. The OP is also full of meaning, but it is hard to go into because of spoilers. But the first thing to notice is that this season has a much larger cast of secondary characters.

Hofitel

Gotta love Hayasaka’s voice actor delivering that total banger of a song at the karaoke concert. The lyrics were perfect as well, it's both funny but also kinda sad if you consider the fact Hayasaka might also have feelings for the President as well. I hope you’re seeing more and more why so many people think Hayasaka is “Best Girl” in this show, she isn’t for me but I still love her as she is one of the better characters in one of my all time fav shows. Hayasaka is basically the anti-Chika, she exists to manipulate what goes on in the Student Council room just like Chika. But, she influences the story's events in a very different way, using subtle tactics and only acting at the behest of her master/friend (Definitely a weird dynamic there for teenage girls…)

benj

I freaking lose it at Chika's quiet hyperventilating😂😂

Athena

Agreed. Goodwin's facial expressions are such a wonderful and underrated aspect of his reactions

Oh, that debate story was really cool actually. My family has had the long-standing unofficial tradition of debating at the dinner table, whether it be 'why hanajima could beat goku', politics, the best method of raising Apollo's red cattle. Our dad would *consistently* take the side counter to whoever initiated the conversation and proceed to (civilly) destroy his kid's entire argument. In the event that one of my siblings or I would get mad, he'd let us argue the side he just presented, while he took the side he'd just won against. Each time, he would then come up with a BETTER argument for the side he was currently arguing. It was amazingly impressive to watch. Dad would then explain the strategies he was using, and how to think in terms of what your opponent was going to say. He did the same thing with lying. The funniest, most iconic, most on-brand story I have of my dad is when he successfully convinced all of my siblings (and one of his co-workers! A fully-grown woman!) that bananas started off purple. It was a glorious evening that I remember to this day. Thanks for reminding me :)

Geneva The Weeba

your faces of confusion that start at 24:00 can be replayed an unlimited amount of times and will never NOT be funny

Backslash

That's a really nice insight. I got the continuation of Miyuki and Kaguya dreaming about each other from the first ED, but totally did not connect the dots that it was about Miyuki's rejection of the moon story. Tbh I was not a huge fan of this ED just in terms of the music but I might start to warm up to it

Steve.

A Goodwin upload at a reasonable time?? Unthinkable

Geneva The Weeba

This ED has a special place in my heart. It very well may be my all time favourite anime ending. There are very few ED’s that can make me emotional just by watching them, with this ending I teared up literally every single time I watched it at the end of each episode of S3, the last shot especially gets to me everytime. I just adore how this ED is a direct plot continuation from the S1 ED. This ending is a visualisation of the Tale of Princess Kaguya and how Miyuki rejects the outcome of that fictional story when it comes to what will happen in his own life. The visuals mixed with that emotional foundation and a total 10/10 banger song that is both catchy and upbeat but also very moving. "Because I would never have let Kaguya go. I'd go to the moon to get her back, no matter what. Even if it took decades, or centuries. If this was Our Tale, we'd read the hidden messages in our words so thoroughly we'd never end up with their fate." - Miyuki Shirogane, during the moon viewing episode.
