But maybe one way forward is something like a hybrid of natural talent and hard work, putting one's gifts into something personally selected and hard fought

2022-03-08 00:24:36 +0000 UTCI agree with what you say about talent and being special, but I think, to some degree, Mob kind of sees his psychic powers as cheating. He got it through inheritance and, to him, their presence is a cop out and he is not truly special like others. You can tell with how he describes them, seeing them more as a tool than an innate trait. This is why he doesn’t internalize himself as being truly special. That his psychic powers are a tool, or a trait, like hair color as opposed to a talent that makes him special. I think there is logic to this, as shown with Teru here, and who sees himself as infinitely superior because of an ability he was born with. If everyone had psychic powers it might be different. I feel that Mob more so needs to appreciate his personality and other aspects. His good conscience, humbleness, and restraint being some of them. So I kind of agree in the sense that his current behavior is not necessarily healthy. Again, I think the abilities themselves are not what makes him special, if he just used psychic powers for everything, like this guy, I think it has no value. Like how muscles mean nothing unless you take into account the work you took to get it. With the psychic powers, it’s less about the work put into it and more how he chooses to use them. And what I truly admire about Mob is the fact that his psychic powers can immediately make him popular if he wants to, because of how other people would view them, but he chooses not to embellish that. This could be due to naivety or due to his crush’s reactions but I think is at least somewhat the original idea. The only problem being that, in the vacuum of the lack of admiration for his powers, he chooses to value a lot of unimportant things for unimportant reasons (subjectively).
