@Tyler That's exciting, I didn't know that about Demon Slayer. I'm caught up with that show right now and it only keeps getting better, did Manga fans like the ending? Don't spoil anything obviously please lmao

benj

@benj It takes a lot of stamina to be able to work on the same series for years and years. One Piece, JoJo's, and Beserk are a few examples of authors that want long stories. I think the current shift in what's considered "normal" is good. Take Demon Slayer for example. It is a fantastic series, with great characters and plot. And the manga is already over with less than 200 chapters I believe. I think something that old authors don't realize, is that all good stories have an ending. Not to say that One Piece, Jojo, etc are bad, but it's important to know when to end things and not let it drag on.

Tyler Seder

@Matthew Yeah almost all on Shounen get stretched out longer than they should. Hopefully Horikoshi can pull off a good ending to MHA cause its gonna be hard to please everyone thats for sure.

benj

Benji, I get you love MHA, but it was never going to go on for that long. The story has already gone on way longer then Horikoshi originally intended. Plus, I don’t think the man would have it in the tank to go on that long on the same series. It’s all just a result of the general pace of the story, and the way the manga industry is now. Nowadays they are not looking for things to go on as long as Naruto or Bleach, they want shorter stories. This industry is about business first after all…

Matthew Richson

@Tyler Damn...I want 1,000 episode MHA like One Piece where every 1-A character (who survives of course) eventually graduates from UA, become pro heros and have a completed character arc/go through good development. Deku is only at what like 8% power right now in the anime or something, they could stretch it out another 890 episodes and slowly get Deku all the way up to 100%. At least give us 300 episodes where every year of school is around 100 episodes-ish like it has been so far. Its going to be hilariously weird finishing MHA and not having any of the kids graduate from the damn school...like what was the whole point of the show??? Lmao.

benj

Benj it's hard to give too many details without spoiling the current manga, but like Tyler said the stakes escalate to a point where the current meta story arc needs to end soon or else it will get too ridiculous (it kind of already has tbh). They are in their 2nd year at current in the manga as well though it's not like that's much better that the story will end there instead lol

Nic Lichtner

Without spoiling obviously, it seems Horikoshi is much more concerned about finishing the story due to the ever rising stakes. Im not sure about rounding out everyone from 1A, but I doubt he would end it without giving each of the kids their spotlight at least once.

Tyler Seder

That would be so bizarre to me if the show ended while they were still in the first half of high school at UA...like wouldn't ALL of the class 1-A characters still be completely unfinished and unresolved?? Unless we got a couple wild epilogue episodes that just goes way into the future so we get closure, but that usually never goes well.

benj

You made an off-hand comment in the beginning of this episode about the first year being 8 seasons long... As a manga reader of this series, it's looking like it just may end up being 8 seasons long for the series to end lol

Tyler Seder

This episode is just sooo good, probably my favorite in the whole series so far (but then with the new season coming, that'll probably change), I guess because Aizawa has been my fav character since the start, but wow, the feels in this one are off the charts. Also, seeing Present Mic like that, who is always so happy and fun, makes it hit even harder I think! I absolutely love that he and Aizawa are such close friends, they're complete opposites yet he and Mic (and Midnight) work so well together. We see the three of them interract a bit in Vigilantes and it's always hilarious

You mention you didn’t realise the nomu were human but there’s a lot of cool theories that got proven right that theorised it way back in season 2 and 3, so I’ll drop the link here. It also has some stuff about AFO’s right hand man the evil doctor being the same doctor who diagnosed deku without a quirk, perhaps deku not having a quirk was a blessing rather than a curse coz it meant he was safe from nomufication https://www.reddit.com/r/BokuNoHeroAcademia/comments/de96gl/winged_nomu_theory/

Sparky Sponge

if u want to read the cut content from the next episode, the pages are from chapter 218-220. you can read them on shounen jump, i’m pretty sure the subscription is like a few dollars. or you could just pirate them LMAO. but yeah, in chapter 218-219 you’ve already seen some of the scenes, its just that they cut out a lot of stuff in between that was build up for chapter 220 :D in my opinion after you finish watching the next arc you should reread it in the manga, in the episodes there were a lot of cuts and censorship (only if you want to though!)

Nat

Wait you read the manga!! I’d love to see a manga reaction for this season after you’re done reacting to it!! It’s a totally different experience, although I love the anime a lot too!

NitrousOxide19

Not sure if this was pointed out to you, but the guy at the end with Shigaraki is actually Deku's doctor from the first episode.

themightyabe

Christopher Wehkamp killed it in this episode.

CRS

Wow that's high praise. Maybe I should read the whole thing

Alex G

You asked about who other Nomu creatures were. It was never outright said, but one of Bakugos friends from the flashbacks where he bullied young Deku had the same kind of wings as the winged Nomu that took Deku/was killed by Stain. Horokoshi confirmed in an interview that the boy became that Nomu (or his quirk was taken for that nomu)

Nick A Sam III

Well I only went to Patreon because I couldn’t finish watching the fruits basket reactions otherwise but yeah there is no way I would have cared enough to do that with anyone else’s reactions.

Silent Shadow

I thought Midnight took Sushi home? But I might be wrong. It is somewhat strange that she's not here, but I imagine they were trying to spare her, like they did Shirakumo's parents. I'm glad you decided to read the backstory beforehand, it just hits different if you know. If you don't, you'll still get the gist, but I think the emotional connection to Shirakumo is missing. And well, it is the missing Aizawa puzzle piece that puts everything into perspective. I actually thought for a while they might turn the Aizawa flashback into the third Movie, so Anime onlys could get both together as well. I'm actually really impressed with how well they adapted this episode, because on paper, it's just people talking a lot, which had the potential to be boring to look at. But they really went all out on directing and acting, there's some pretty cool shots here and Aizawa's VA sells the hell out of the moment.

kingafreund

Yeah that’s what I was meaning, the opening fight, (trying not to spoil) 😂and everything that got cut before that, including the CRC and the argument

Lyra Paradox

218 actually, if only to see everything that was cut from the opening fight we got in episode 100.

Matthew Richson

If it isn't too much to ask, for the next episode, (and I can provide the pages if needed), do you think you could read some pages that were cut out of the anime that are in the manga? It gives some good characterization to spinner and makes him a lot more likeable for me, and a lot of other people. I would LOVE to see you react to it and have that context, because in the anime they cut out around 11 or so pages of content in the next episode you're about to watch from chapter 220 of the main series.

Lyra Paradox

I have been reading vigilantes as well and I enjoy the direction it's been going since the characters act illegally according to the law, but the actions are well intentioned and justified considering how they elaborate on why they do things the way they do it. I think I like them initially more than the kids in 1-A.

TrueAuraGuardian

The chapters that this episode adapted were but the opening prelude to the biggest and most intense arc of the series yet. An arc that makes the one you are about to get to look like a mere skirmish… This episode gives a lot of insight into Aizawa’s mindset and the depths of All for One’s evil…

Matthew Richson

God this is one of my favorite episodes of the season because it always invokes emotions out of me whenever I see it. Seeing the past of Aizawa and the reasons for his actions and personality and the people that shaped it and such a dark twist to a character we've known since season 1. Seeing Aizawa have such emotions is just something I didn't expect when I first saw the episode and the music and storyboarding for this episode in my opinion is fantastic. Top 3 episode of the season in my opinion. Can't wait for the last arc of the season coming up!

Skyler Anderson

Didn’t think Aizawa could go farther up my favorite character list and yet here we are. Seeing people who are usually so stoic and reserved show outbursts of emotion can be extremely powerful, especially when it's as serious of a situation as this. Such a heartbreaking reunion for this trio of old friends… :(

benj

"He interned under Prince" I'm screaming but you're 10000% correct. I'm curious where he is now ngl, if Aizawa still gets in contact with him

Muchymozzarella

"Should I read it now" *pauses episode to read it* This is why you're the only Youtube reactor I ever subbed to on Patreon LOL you do your homework

Muchymozzarella

Seeing Present Mic sweating in the car with Aizawa caught me hella off guard when this episode first came out. I was sitting back chilling, not really caring too much about the episode, and then all of a sudden I’m sitting upright nervous as hell cause Present Mic is normally super outgoing. This episode is insanely under rated in my opinion, captures a certain mood in a lot of scenes really well, there’s a constant tension throughout the whole episode. There’s this constant looming feeling of dread that drips through the whole runtime, excluding the beginning of the episode. I remember being very sad after finishing this episode.
