My best guess at this is that there's an ebb and flow to the whole thing.

That's a great point. He seems like more of a spiritual counselor and shoulder to lean on than a teacher. Compare him to say... Jeong Jeong in Avatar and it's a totally different vibe. In many ways, and I think this is intentional, he and Deku are kind of kindred souls and feel like friends.

Haha so back in the AOT days a friend recorded me singing "Fly to Heaven" at karaoke but I can't find the video now!

Interesting that the meta liberation / league of villains said UA students haven't grown that much. Hawks swooped in to hide what our boys could do. For the zodiac wa- i mean hero/villain war in 4 months lol

That does sound good…

I had a feeling you'd really dig this episode and seeing this side of Endeavor. I know I appreciated it too. Mostly the worldbuilding is impeccable, but this ep highlights a possible contradiction. Is there a glut of heroes or a scarcity? The Wild WIld Pussycats were psyched to be like 300+ on the billboard chart and Aizawa isn't even ranked at all it seems, but you have to put out a sneaky call to arms for trainees? Seeing as hero work is the only way people can really use their quirks it makes sense there's a lot of pros. Though 100K IS a lot of combatants so maybe it's not too much of a contradiction...

CRS

Have you ever heard of the J.R.O,T.C.? It stands for junior reserve officer training corp. It’s a program sponsored by the US Armed Forces that teaches middle and high school age students how to be good citizens, and hopefully soldiers

I'm just gonna say that melon pan, the thing Deku was eating on the roof, is really yummy but it's kinda a bitch to make yourself. It's like a sugar cookie surrounding a nice plush bun. There are no melons involved.

Two things about this episode that I didn't pick up on until a second watch. First, the ethicacy of involving children in the fight against the League. As soon as the reason for the workstudys was revealed, it sort of made me question the entire system that is currently in place. Like going to a school while you're a child to train to become a public servant and soldier? Kinda messed up. Second, Deku is really smart. I think this was the first time that I was able to take in just how much Deku has to manage (and how much more he has to manage when he gets his other quirks). Like between the specific outputs of OFA, air force, black whip, and 6 more quirks (each with their own moves and applications), he's going to be at Batman levels of intelligence by the time this is over.

Something I really enjoy, and isn’t apparent right away is that All Might isn’t a great teacher. A bit of a light got shone onto it with the work study with Gran Torino and I feel like this really adds to it, with Endeavor already seeming to do a bit better at explaining and educating in a more technical way, while All Might was teaching a lot more in a mental way. I remember him saying to Deku at a certain point ‘you just gotta feel it!’ For example. I don’t think that takes anything away from All Might’s character at all, to me it makes him a lot more interesting actually. A lot of times Deku really feels like a sponge, surrounded by so many inspiring and powerful heroes. That makes moments like these mean so much more, instead of an empty ‘imma do better’.

It honestly amazes me how nuanced Endeavor has become. He's balancing his struggles of home with the new challenges of being a good mentor. But the advice and experiences that he's passing on is invaluable. That last scene of the four on the roof is very simple, but it hits on a lot of emotional levels.

"If worse comes to worst Mushroom girl can just kill them all" now you understand why she was right all along :))))

When he retires there's probably a spot for him at UA

Endeavor was a god awful father, but he’s a damn good mentor if you ask me.

I understand why, but it's too bad that Uraraka wasn't really in this episode It's her birthday, after all!

Todoroki realizing he can just use his fire half to propel himself forward and move around reminds me of the moment Deku remembered he also had legs. The answer is in such plain sight but Todoroki was so tunnel visioned by his hatred for his father and only focused on the other half of his quirk for such a long time.
