I have my own theory about Yuki's mom, and how she handle the whole thing. We don't know how she reacted to Ayame's curse, since it's usually not that great among the zodiacs. I saw people saying she used Yuki for her own agenda, but they are 10 years apart. It's like Momiji and his sister : the ones who knew didn't want to go through that pain again. It must be hard to give birth to 2 children you can't hug or be close to. Yuki and Ayame are the only ones we know of to be siblings. And Yuki being the rat, he had way more pressure on his head at birth than Ayame ever would have. Especially since the rat is the closest to god, meaning Akito wouldn't let him go. And especially with how much I know from the rest of the series, I don't think Yuki's mother did what she did to make him suffer. It's a consequences of all the bad stuff in the family. I know it's a controversial opinion, but I don't see her as a bad person per say. She might have done her best for her son but lose sight of the important things.

Evalone

Yep, same here :')

Evalone

welcome :D

So happy I joined the patreon. I would have been so sad to miss these episodes.

Ayame's entrance is everything, and so satisfying. Not just for Yuki's sake but also to see their mother's horror and fear of him. He's so extra, he's like an alien invader to her and she is genuinely scared, which is ridiculous because we all know that he is not violent in any way. He's just so disruptive to her worldview that she freaks out and runs away - haha! I love this moment for Ayame - he needed it as much as Yuki did. He's just a beautiful soul in a sparkling, roses-wrapped package of fun. I think it's important to remember that Ayame, Shigure, and Hatori all had each other as support while Yuki was completely isolated from any of the Soma kids around his own age. Haru managed to sneak in once in a while but Kyo was conditioned to see Yuki as an enemy, Momiji was in Germany or something, Kagura would have been on Kyo's side, and Rin was...dealing with her own stuff. Yuki had no one but the poisonous Akito for the most formative part of his childhood. It's incredibly sad and also makes Yuki's growth that much more impressive. I complain a lot about his constant emo inner-monologuing but he needs it if he's going to build up an immunity to the God Soup. Hanajima has found the man with perfect waves for her - Kazuma the Handsome. Hehe. Can't blame her - he's such a good man and a wonderful father for Kyo. Imagine Kyo calling her "Mom"! Not enough Uotani! She does have some focus coming soon though!

Serralinda

Truly when Ayame entered the room I actually jumped for joy good for you big bro!

Mackenzie

This season has indeed been incredible so far. That's a great point about the music. The tone shift is so severe but in the best most satisfying most relief-inducing way imaginable

Alex G

What a great episode of further Yuki development. His CGI mom gliding out of the car always crack me up though. 🤣

Eatchu

@Nick HAHA true! I've never thought of it that way but its totally correct, she is the basement/Grisha of FruBa.

benj

np didn't know it was the full song till after i posted it but oh well still an awesome ED XD

Brimmy

Is it the flashback thing Tohru had? I have like fifty theories about that, Tohru's mom continues to be the "AOT basement" of Fruits Basket

Nick

Although I will say both versions gut me the same way for this episode

Nick

It's probably heavier in English because there's no language barrier. Hearing the cruel words she says spoken in a language we speak and understand fluently makes it feel more real in some ways Also, I appreciate the ED link thank you!

Nick

Watched this episode and the next one, fruits basket definitely came out swinging for the second season and it doesn't seem to miss. At all. I am very tempted to say this season is peak (semi) slice of life fiction even though it's not over yet. Every single episode in this season has been consistently high quality Edit: I can't imagine how hard it must be for Kyo to have to give an answer on what he wants his future to be, when he's pretty much constantly reminded that he'll be locked up with no freedom by the time he graduates. I also love the irony in Yuki's mom saying he acted like a whining kid losing a toy, only for her to then storm off because Ayame showed up and gave Yuki agency in that moment. Yuki is just a toy/tool for her to gain status and she's throwing a fit.

Nick

@benj the only ugly character that I'm aware of is Kyo's dad lmao

Francesca White

@Francesca LMAO I mean Yuki and Ayama couldn't look like the supermodels they are without some crazy genes, why is literally everyone in this show gorgeous? I'm not complaining.

benj

True but they did make her a milf

Francesca White

Yuki deserves a better parent

Megan

Just him entering the room instantly changes the tone and the music reflects that. It's so perfect

Nick

Watching this episode right now, I got the biggest smile when Ayame arrived, actually teared up

Nick

Fuck Yuki’s Mom, all my homies hate Yuki’s Mom

benj

...I think i know what ur talking about o.o

Brimmy

HOW'D I MISS HANA CALLING MASTER(sensei???) HANDSOME?! WHERE WAS I? ahh that's why cuz of the Yuki stuff in this episode....why is it so much heavier in english than japanese? his mom just sucks ughhh can't wait for what's his face to grow out of his chuuni phase and cringe to death at his antics XD also hour long eden ED anyone? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbZKU6roG_w

Brimmy

I really love this episode, for pretty much the same reasons that everyone else has listed. Ayame's entrance was just... perfection, lol! Ayame really knows how to take up a lot of space--and I mean that in the best way--but this time, he deliberately only took up as much space as Yuki needed to find the courage to speak for himself. If that isn't character growth for both of them, I don't know what is. <3

Alyssa Callahan

Oh my God, I would watch the hell out of that anime.

Katie S.

Lol the way I know exactly what you mean

Francesca White

I'm not the kind of person who is very vocal or expressive when watching tv shows/movies/etc. but i remember when I first watched this episode I was loudly cheering at my tv screen when Ayame appeared! haha Its feels like such good payoff for him to show up for Yuki. Likewise, it was so heartwarming the moment when Yuki said he was dependable. :) Really great episode for the two of them.

Sweetbun

Nah you put it in the video, I just missed it

Ietseatapples

I'm only half way through but theres a scene that contains so much weight that people don't fully understand until you know the whole story and i can't wait to blurt it out to you when you find out.. i know this is very vague but.. its all i can say for now lmaoo

Crystalrose

Wait you mean the Ayame super defense force scene? I caught it but maybe I edited it out accidentally?

Alex G

you missed a post credit scene, but its not an important one. There are only a very small handful of post credit scenes in fruba, but i know for sure one in season 3 is very important. So i'd suggest just making sure each episode you arent missing anything.

Ietseatapples

yea i second this, how good do you think the show is quality wise, like compared to other ones youve watched on the channel

benj

It was such a huge payoff for me to see Ayame be there in the way he wanted but also in a way that felt totally natural and to his strengths

Alex G

Yes!!! Ayame in his Super brother mode....he gets to come to yuki's rescue!! Love it.. Also the ribbon that tohru was wearing was gifted by yuki to her as a white day gift...

raesh

I really love this episode too because it feels like the culmination of Ayame's arc in a lot of ways

Francesca White

I'd definitely say that after this episode, Ayame is indeed worthy of One For All.

Trey Goldsworthy

Man rewatching this show in these reactions is really cementing in my mind why it's my favorite show 😭 also I'm kind of curious, now that you're pretty far into the show, is the show the same as you imagined it'd be, or is it different??

Francesca White

Lol I love Machi she's such a mood

Francesca White

I was waiting for your reaction to Ayame this episode and it didn’t disappoint haha. This is possibly my favorite scene in the show. I was smiling like crazy when he showed up

Rebecca

I never noticed but in the end credits Machi walks in and then walks back out. 😂 same Machi. Ayame seems like a lot of fun but I would need a two week nap afterwards.
