Yeah I think the more specific problem for me is that they focus on and get excited about really weird things sometimes. There are only a couple of fights that I actually cared about but they put so much focus on other things that are really not as cool as they make it out to be.

Silent Shadow

Nice! I just remembered because you mentioned you wanted to see more backstory of All Might and his master and that OVA is short but important!

Muchymozzarella

I meant to at that time but forgot. I will go back to it!

I haven't watched much of this arc yet but I can imagine a feeling creeping up of like... oh so this is what it's going to be the whole time? These battles with EVERYONE? But the fact that I can watch the whole arc now and also the fact that these school exercises always end up being great makes it all fine (at least for me so far).

Alex G

Yeah you're right. It will probably take me 5 seasons of this to get all their names, but after watchign 5x4 I can say that if every episode is like that I will definitely have a distinct understanding of them at least as far as their quirks are concerned.

Alex G

I disagree. I think the animation was the least put together but only because of how busy Bones seemed to be on the movie + pandemic issues. I also think the flashbacks got a bit confusing. Beyond that however, I never felt bored in the story. Each episode had such an interesting reveal - the abilities of Class B and the new abilities of Class A, which will be important for the next season for sure, and the storytelling for the upcoming two arcs of season 5 are some of the most memorable. Like... I felt more bored with the licensing exam with this, even if I think the construction and animation for that arc was a lot better.

Muchymozzarella

Sorry if I'm not remembering, but did you react to All Might Rising, the OVA from the first movie? I think you definitely should!

Muchymozzarella

Meh Season 4 was the worst season for me, this season actually gets pretty great especially further in.

Kamolak

i’ve only watched MHA binged, on Hulu, but when last i checked, they only had 5 sub (i’m sure they have dub by now) so this is my first seeing this, and so far i LOVE it! this first challenge is amazing!!

Richard Lucas

Yeah a lot of my gripes with season 5 are smoothed over somewhat by bingeing. Week to week the pacing really felt jank.

secretsecret

I could understand how this arc would feel terrible to watch on a weekly basis. It feels much better binge watching it and because of that more rewarding for each episode

Nick

i just found out there is a MHA f2p phone game. Maybe after season 5 ends, you could play a few rounds on camera?

Richard Lucas

A lot of people dislike this arc, as the comments here suggest, but surprisingly those people aren't among the commenters. Time to change that! I think this is the worst arc in the anime. It's not awful, but I think it's needlessly bloated and indicative of the issues season 5 suffers from as a whole.

I love that we're finally going to see Shinso in action! Him being Aizawa's protege is so nice too, Aizawa recognized his potential after the Sports Festival and he's been training with him ever since, Shinso is a lot like Aizawa was as a student too, so that makes it even better

Tiphaine Le Roux

Yeah, it's pretty hard to remember all the names of class B but I definitely remembered a few new ones because some students of class B were extremely impressive. I really like this arc, it is a bit nostalgic and we finally get to see all the quirks from class B, which are so interesting. It is also nice to have a bit of calm before the storm oof.

Jenny bete

Plus, Shinso even has the same cloth bandage thing that Aizawa does

Nick

Gonna throw a theory out here: Dabi has a sort of weird patched up Frankenstein look to him, maybe his backstory in some way correlates to his obsession with the nomus? Something else I noticed is that on Aizawa's mid episode character cards it always says he likes cats. And it says the same thing for Shinso. Shinso has a pretty similar vibe and look to Aizawa, I could see him working under Aizawa as a mentor in the future Also Eri's ability must have something to do with the world being past the singularity point then. She's a textbook example of a quirk that is too powerful to control. Additionally I think the reason All Might was blurry in Deku's dream/vision is because he hasn't died yet.

Nick

That's crazy, I was watching it from the start and ended up bringing 5 episodes or so. It's amazing

Nick

SHINSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Bakugo can't handle the praise for the deku hehehe ...yeah...thanks for naming all the Class B students...we're totally gonna remember all of them...yeah.... BRO I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS ARC I CAN'T EVEN DEAL DFJKGSDFJLGBSDKJFGBJKDFGB Nah sero really out here calling todoroki 'Roki' LMAO i fucking love this anime I STILL LOVE THAT HAGAKURE IS PETTING/HOLDING DARK SHADOW AHHHHH DFLGJSDFJBSDFHGB the girls love to pet him it makes me so happy kaminari please LMAO Shinso's quirk makes more sense when its animated and u can hear things instead of reading it cuz i was so confused when i read this in the manga XD

Brimmy

Woooo this is a really good arc tbh. So many good fights and developments for a lot of characters. I LOVE the fact that Shinso get's such a buff with that support item. It changes his presence into a massive mind game

Skyler Anderson

Contrary to popular opinion, I love this arc. I'm a sucker for versus battles/battle royales because I love to see how each power works against one another. I also love the reveal of how each student has grown and developed their quirk as well as their teamwork and strategy skills. We all are biased toward class A, but class B does have some heavy hitters that I cant wait for you to see!

Athena

Oh, I don't know, I think the format of the fight actually lends itself really well to getting to know Class B. I went from knowing 4 people to having at least a decent idea of most of Class B. I still don't know all their names, but compared to the sports festival or the summer training camp, I'd probably be able to list them all now. I think that's an other thing MHA does really well, the way you go from "so many characters, how will I ever remember them all?" to knowing a lot of characters, be it Class A, Class B, the teachers, pro heroes or villains. It happens pretty naturally too, remember the days when you thought keeping Class A straight was a lot? Idk, I just think it's neat how a little exposure to a character makes such a difference!

kingafreund

I meant to watch that with the movie. Gotta get back to it

Alex G

**SMALL SPOILER WARNING** The fact he mentioned there being a Kuruk in there somewhere, and there actually being a weilder who only held OFA for a few years similar to Kuruk is just hilarious and absolutely confirms his theory lol. Togashi must be a big avatar fan

Michael Stollard

That face when you're a manga reader and the last chap was a doozy. Won't spoil, but oh my, I can't wait for your reaction to that.

BotheredAsh

Maybe it is just one of those circumstances where great minds think alike.

Trey Goldsworthy

There's actually a very short OVA that came out with the 1st movie regarding All-Might that's a definite must watch. It's called. "All Might Rising", unfortunately there's no dub so its sub only. I highly recommend it.

AstroSeedP

I actually really love this arc. The last two fights are amazing, I even cried at the Bakugou one, but generally, since I am a manga reader, and no this isn’t going to be a spoiler, I’m just glad we get a bit more slice of life before season six.

Amelia

This particular arc is a bit of a divisive one, it’s one of the most popular in Japan, but here in the states it’s considered to be one of the worst, generally.

Matthew Richson

this isn't a spoiler, but meta powers is just what they used to call quirks when they first started appearing

Francesca White

a lot of people think that Horikoshi watched Avatar cuz of the CRAZY similarities between Zuko and Todoroki, plus other connections, but he denies that he ever saw it
