In the My Hero Academia season 4 episode 12 Unforeseen Hope, Nighteye earns our forgiveness for that terrible tickle device... almost.

this and ep 14 were tough in the manga but even worse animated Overhaul sucks ass omg, just wanna punch him in his stupid face

Brimmy

Overhaul told Deku that his line of attack is extremely predictable, which is almost exactly what Bakugo warned Deku of after their recent fight (in the post-credit scene). I honestly didnt think that would come back to bite Deku so soon

Deiondre0

This is definitely one of the better arcs thats for sure

benj

Just watched this episode and the next ones, feel like I just experienced the best MHA arc

Nick

Haha I'm glad. I'm still thinking about the fact that he managed to reassemble himself WHILE reassembling himself.

His quirk gets more interesting but also more tragic the more I think about it. At first it's like... woah that is the most overpowered quirk... but another way of looking at it is that it's actually useless and at worst maybe even HARMFUL. Like, he can see the future and use that to avoid hits in battle right? Except that he couldn't do that for Overhaul. Which seems to suggest that he's not actually using his knowledge of the future to do anything, it's more like... that's just the way things happen and would have happened no matter what? Not exactly sure but it's weird. And yeah, how do you know for sure that by using the vision you aren't locking in those events?

Alex G

Oh man that thing....... You're right that does put it all into perspective

Alex G

Toga and Twice are my favorite villian duo, love those two.

benj

I love the casual "yeah..he does that.".

Darby

Not quite sure why or if I can even put it into words, but this might have been my favorite reaction of yours throughout this series so far lol. I guess for 2 main reasons if I had to boil it down: A. Your immediate understanding and respect for Nighteye, once given the new perspective on him. I always enjoy and admire the reactors (or anyone really) who make adjustments to their beliefs based on new info and don’t just stick to their original impressions because of comfort. And B. Your “praise” (if you wanna call it that) for Overhaul as a villain, now that you’ve seen his true power and what he’s really capable of. The designs, writing, and overall treatment of the villains is personally what I think MHA excels at, above 99% of other superhero or similar shonen ‘good vs evil’ franchises. All of them are either super badass, really awesome looking, have an amazing quirk, are incredibly sympathetic and understandable, or sometimes even all of the above lol.

That scene nighteye had about possibly locking in Almight's future hurts me. That responsibility he puts on himself that looking at the future could make it permanent is fascinating. Plus the helplessness in seeing something so terrible and knowing you can't do anything.

TOMORROW BABY!!! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE HE FIRST STARTED THIS SHOW

I can easily forgive Nighteye because no tickle torture device will ever be as bad as Admiral Zachary/Zackley's chair of doom... whatever the hell his name was.

Nick

The next episode is peak shonen anime, so great! Also, the way Deku keeps fighting even though he anticipates his own death in this fight draws a nice parallel to All Might fighting All for One even though he too anticipated his own death. And the way Eri came back to save everyone by basically sacrificing herself made me tear up, she has a heart of gold even though the world has been so cruel to her.

Jenny bete

Your Japanese was 100% this episode. Power!

I think the reason Rocklock's criticisms hit me in a negative way is that there's simultaneously the validity of the point and also other underlying emotional stuff. In Rocklock's case (and Nighteye's first meeting with Deku for that matter) it seems like there's more to it than just objective concern and some other more personal thing lurking beneath the surface.

Alex G

I knew it was the quirk of the person he absorbed but forgot he had that truth quirk

Alex G

Yeah that whole thing with them in the beginning doesn't seem as important anymore

Alex G

I cannot wait for the next episode! Get ready to flip out.

themightyabe

Again I always love rewatching this arc. Always great insight into the characters of this show and I'm glad Nighteye is growing on you. He's a very tough love kinda realist who doesn't have the power of all might to just be the ultimate hero. Also the last scene with him talking to Eri is supposed to be showing that he can use Nemoto's quirk too btw. He was using Confession on her so she really didn't believe that Deku can win all by himself she wasn't lying.

when you said "Imagine that guy on drugs" when Overhaul used his quirk I died 🤣💀 Also bravo on being able to describe with words that oh so vicious circle of anxiety lol been living with it all my life so when you articulated it so well I was like 👀 #seen. I cant wait for the next two episodes, Its peak anime and I love it so much ❤

I can see why Rocklock would come off pretty brash, but I can totally see where he came from in the meeting room. Often as we the viewer forget; Class-1A is quite literally children. And the few here for this mission are being sent into absolute danger where they will see death and brutality. Of course, they are prepared and have been trained for this, but Rocklock seemed to be the voice of reason when he realizes that they're still kids. That's not to say they aren't incapable just because of their age, we've already seen how amazing the class is. Yet this can parallel to our own world; imagine sending highschool freshmen out with police permits or working as firefighters.

MartianElegy

Idk if you noticed but Overhaul was using the truth quirk when he was talking through the the mouth on his hand, just making his quirk much better is that he can use the quirks of people he fuses with.

Jabez Katsak

Even as much as i disliked Nighteye's attitude towards Deku. That scene still hits different.
