Fullmetal basket sounds like some kind of crazy sports anime. Or maybe an adventure story centered around collecting something

Mortis

@Leo Introducing Tohru HONDA! Her quirk??!?!?!?! THERAPIST. Tohru Honda has the ability to fix any single persons personal trauma in one episode! *said in present mic voice*

benj

Tohru is like if there was a therapist superhero.

oragami53

to be fair if u watch enough subbed anime u'll get used to looking everywhere unless u have some kind of thing that makes this significantly harder then never mind o.o

Brimmy

Fullmetal Basket and Fruits Brotherhood

Nick

Tohru giving me massive Steven vibes (from Steven Universe) Literally rolls up to the club and becomes a therapist for the night

Nick

I find it funny the both Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and Fruits Basket 2019 have the same title of their first opening songs "Again" considering they are both reboots of previous shows that are more faithful to their source material.

ArmdVctr

"He's got a thorn in his paw" lmaooooo theres gonna be infinite possibilties for animal puns as this show goes on "Is she just gonna solve everyones issues in one episode?" PepeLaugh he doesn't know, can't wait to keep getting futher in!

benj

I prefer dub in general, but especially for watching reactions. It's kind of annoying to have to watch the subtitles when I want to watch the reactor. Also "Tohru solved everyone's problems" is basically the theme of the show lol

Sean Silence

Thank you! Love you too :D

Alex G

I love you Goodwin and your reactions

Gexshen

Jerry's had it rough for a while now.

Nick

i love both the sub and the dub

Jacob Keyser

Can you show me your back plum?

Kiwi

Idk why but there's something so hilarious and heart wrenching about a mouse having a monologue about how no one likes him.

themightyabe

The accent might be reason to switch to the sub

Alex G

oh man, this episode is like the tip of the iceberg, i won't give anything away but this is like the show i've seen dive deepest into what makes people work, along with Bojack Horseman

Francesca White

only thing i hate about this dub is they gave momiji the weirdest accent like yeah he's half german??? but why the accent??? The love interest part...if u've never read the manga and only seen the original before now...they make it very vague because it could be either of the boys (by the end of the original u really just assume its kyo cuz reasons) but it never expands on anything ever its a go read the manga ending -_- but with this series it expands it and fleshes it out and gives u lots of answers! u might have ur answer near the end of Season 2???? if people don't spoil it before then that is

Brimmy

There wasn’t a poll this time. He watched the first episode of for different shows: Fruits Baskets, Jujutsu Kaisen, To Your Eternity, and Infinity Train. He chose Fruits Baskets as the main show to react to and chose To Your Eternity to react to once a week or once every two weeks instead of bonus videos

Megan

Watching this one along with you. I'm really wondering how this show works. Like you said it's like "we solved everyone's problems today." curious what they have instore in the future.

Sage

I’m happy to say that this episode only scratches the surface in terms of chapter developments and so much more is to come:) The plot of Fruits Baskets really is the characters themselves, and with 63 episodes there’s time to flesh out all the characters completely. Great reaction like always:D

Megan

Ahhhh I can't get over how excited I am that you're watching this show!

Alyssa Callahan

Is it really? I've only watched 7 episodes so far but I didn't think it was too bad. Maybe it's like ATLA and the Great Divide, with the worst episode only being "bad" because it's stacked up against other really good ones.

Arnav B

whelp, next episode is widely considered the worst in the series lol, but i'm still excited to see your reaction

Francesca White

Wait was there a post where the shows were decided?? I struck out twice hopin there's a third lol edit: found it ;-;

SupremeCai

this is a small detail they changed in the dub that i'm sad they did, but in the original after Tohru comforted Yuki, he said he was ashamed because "boys shouldn't be weak like that", i thought it was a really sweet moment, because it showed how a lot of times boys think that it's bad to show their weaknesses and insecurities, but like tohru said she was glad he showed it

Francesca White

Besides Tohru? Haha Out of the other characters I feel drawn to the guy whose name I will surely learn soon... the dog zodiac guy

Alex G

I'm both posting these to share my thoughts and to practice commentary and video essay script concepts after the comments on the last Fruits Basket video, so I hope these longer comments don't cloud things up too much! Sorry if they do, I can reduce Also Alex, no idea if you're watching TYE for tomorrow's video, but if you do I recommend watching the op at least once, then decide from there. It really portrays the show well imo, and hikaru utada is amazing

Nick

Still hasn’t sunk in yet that you’re watching this entire show. I’m so stoked. Do you have an early favorite character or someone who’s standing out to you so far? One of the best parts of this show is the ever increasing cast of characters.

benj

(Wrote this at around 3am after watching this episode) Long contemplative comment for Fruit's Basket #1 because I expect to write more of these: This episode spoke to me in quite a few ways. I feel like a strange mix of Kyo and Yuki is in myself, at least as far as their problems go. I'm not very outward with my emotions aside from online, and I'll often respond to others offering emotional help with irritation. I don't know why, even with my parents I feel like I shut them out to a degree, and they're probably the people I'm most honest with aside from my brother. So in that sense, I relate to Kyo. I get irritated in the moment, and immediately backtrack realizing that I'm a fool for not noticing the other person's care and concern, and where it comes from. Going slightly off of Tohru's plum analogy, maybe the reason I get irritated is because I can see other people's kindness/colors so to speak. People with their own problems sorted out, reaching to offer me help; and because of that, I'm envious or frustrated I can't match that yet. But life is a long process, so obviously I'm not going to figure it out in a day. I also relate to Yuki in this episode, primarily his worry about his kindness being a facade. This is less of an issue for me now, but I definitely used to project a much kinder persona to people because I didn't want to be hated. The problem is, it's disingenuous. I would rather be friends with people who befriended me because of who I am authentically. Took me a while to come to that conclusion. And as someone who struggles with severe anxiety, I understand Yuki's worry about people not liking the real him. So anyway, all of this is to say that Tohru talking to both of them in this episode and slowly but surely helping them navigate their issues was very cathartic to watch. Sometimes in a story, the pieces align perfectly for only some of the audience; but those moments become unforgettable to them. It's a unique experience that storytelling has, and I've always appreciated how deeply it can make us reflect on our past and current selves. If a character is well written enough, I think everyone can find a piece of themselves in there, and that's because there's that common link of humanity. An author has truly succeeded if they can evoke that reaction out of the audience imo, because they've managed to get past the barrier between words and raw humanity. They've written a character that is exceptionally human :) Only 3 episodes in but I really love this so far!

Nick

lol if you're curious why this isn't a reverse harem, it's because in a harem there have to be at least 3 potential love interests for the lead, if it's only 2 it's a love triangle
