With the Attack on Trost Arc now completed, the show ups the stakes and finally gives viewers what they've been waiting for this whole time: politics!  The whole court is out of order until Levi saves the day by savagely beating on Eren.

Awesome. I'd say right now he's the character I'm most interested in

Alex G

Thanks! I appreciate that

Alex G

Yeah... there's gonna be a bit more of that particular mistake lol. But I've decided to roll with it

Alex G

Erwin, easily top 3 character for me. Literally an Armin, but a badass leader. Kind of gives me Iroh vibes, you'll see why :)

My post got deleted, but I'll make sure to remind you to watch the OVAs in the future if someone else doesn't beat me to it first lol

Aaron Ong

Red Swan is a fucking masterpiece. Also my favorite opening for sure.

benj

Just wanted to ask fellow commenters on there not to hint at anything to Goodwin, be it what or *who* OVA's are about or whether openings would contain spoilers (because it's exactly when you know a certain opening has spoilers that you start noticing them, otherwise you're just enjoying imagery and music). Let Goodwin experience everything his way just following the series as it goes, it'd be both for his and our good if he doesn't know a thing about what to expect next!

Chestnutkun

And yeah, that was an actual steam

Dorney_Sunraint

It's funny and very interesting for me to see this court again when I know what happened next. Wow. What a journey awaits for Goodwin

Dorney_Sunraint

The opening is so gooooooood

Dorney_Sunraint

Red Swan (Season 3 P1), its my fav intro, such a different feel to it, Love it

Sh3nx

I am up to date with the manga so it is easier to keep track with manga since you can just re-read and take as much time as you want on each panel. When I was reading the chapters, I was wondering how they going to make it less confusing. It appears they just adapted it as accurately as possible and no caring about the confusion lol

Yusuf

Its not super big but It does bother me. Corps is pronounced "Cor" like the core of an apple. Although corpse is very applicable to the survey corps.

Jonathan Canfield

It should be safe to watch the OP after episode 17

Brimmy

It's an interesting episode. As far as courtroom dramas go this was intense, and that ending was definitely memorable lol

Alex G

Mikasa and Levi have officially met eachother but... they got off on the wrong foot lol. You mentioned how they parallel eachother and I agree. In fact, there are scenes/manga panels that are framed with that intent. Aside from that, I personally really enjoyed this episode as a whole. Back when I first watched it yrs ago, it was one of my favorites.

Shark-ira

Brief update: I was waiting for you to react to the people in court bringing up the insane stuff Eren and Mikasa did as 9 year olds lol. It seems almost glossed over, and I was personally relieved that the creator of the story acknowledged that yes, it was not in any way normal behavior Also yeah if military propaganda was as good as the AOT openings, I would probably have considered joining when I was younger

Nick

True. When I was binge watching, the only intro I really got a significant amount from was Red Swan, and that was because of symbolism. That opening doesn’t have obvious spoilers at all, it’s just very symbolic to the characters (Still my favorite opening)

Nick

Probably best, just to be safe, yeah. Would you rather us tell you what specific episode you can watch it on, or should we just let you know when we get there to avoid expectations?

Aaron Ong

@Nick True, its mainly flashbacks and stuff that keeping messing with my head.

benj

Yeah that was the highlight of the episode for me I think. That and Erin understanding what went down and how much that probably ingratiated him with the group.

Alex G

I'm even more excited for that OVA now having seen a little more of Levi and Erwin.

Alex G

That was one of the best good cop/bad cop scenes I've ever watched

Carlos Salazar

I'm gonna play it safe for now :) I just hope somebody will tell me when it's safe to watch LOL.

Alex G

I feel like the military should take notes, if I had seen military propaganda like these openings as a kid I might have enlisted.

Alex G

I don't think you would even understand the images in the opening if you have not saw the episodes.

Eddie

Personally, I think the No Regrets OVA is perfect if you watch it just before Season 3, since the first half of that Season has a lot of call backs to Levi's past

Aaron Ong

Seriously the OVAs are great so I second this! The only skippable OVA is that Jean-boiii!!! one. I enjoyed it but it just felt like it came out of nowhere lol

Kotryna

Eren fits in well with the survey corps, they are all nuts lol. Isayama did a great job showing how in sync Erwin and Levi are with that perfectly executed tag team to get things under control.

Etsch

This show is full of spoilers since the beginning but without context is almost impossible to figure out something. Ignorance is bliss...

Carlos Salazar

Idk, he's pretty perceptive. I'm just glad he listened to the music. After that certain episode it will probably be fine for him to watch and appreciate.

KJ Gaona

Mikasa gave Levi that death glare lmfao. Once you finish season 1, there are OVA's called No Regrets that details Levi and Erwins past together. You should 100% watch them, there is also another one called Lost Girls.

War2244

So I recently rewatched the second opening, and I think I should let you know that you should be safe to watch it next time. While yes, there are spoilers, they are only apparent once you've discovered them yourself in the show. Nothing in the opening is very spoiler-y out of context. It's a great op though! Definitely very representative of the second half of Season 1, especially in its name- Jiyuu No Tsubasa (Wings of Freedom).

Aaron Ong

It should be noted that the openings to this show (until later) are meant to resemble military propaganda. I think it’s really cool, because after these intros that make you amped up for the war, they have characters asking questions soldiers aren’t supposed to ask, such as “why are we even fighting?” And people questioning orders. “What are we dying for?” etc. It’s such a contrast between propaganda and reality of warfare. Glorification vs the real deal This opening paints it as almost triumphant, but the picture the story shows is anything but that. It’s almost like a reflection of how these characters felt during training, before Trost.

Nick

@utdbenj It’s felt pretty okay to me. It’s much more fast paced, but it’s in a way that doesn’t feel jarring. Flashbacks sometimes make it a bit weird but it’s still better than some of the pacing this season. That’s me giving my take with as little spoilers as possible lol Hard to talk about the pacing changes without acknowledging spoilers in the story. I was mostly referring to season 3’s pacing though

Nick

Personally, the Season 3 part 2 intro was my favorite, but right now I think Season 4's opening is the best. Such a good song, though it took a bit to grow on me- but the first intro is definitely the most iconic, and always will be AoT's theme song lol

Aaron Ong

Even after watching all the way through the final season so far, I still personally prefer the 1st season's intro. Don't know if that's a popular opinion tho lol

Alex Begley

You just have to wait for the season 2 opening. That one is my favorite!

Paul

@Nick Lol do they though? Maybe I'm wrong but I'm caught up now with the weekly episode drops and...

benj

I'm along for the ride. Looking forward to seeing a Survey Corpse hardened Eren and crew

Alex G

lmao you are right but I decided just now that I'm gonna stick with corpse

Alex G

erwin the goat smith is his full name btw!

NitrousOxide19

Yeah for the record it's pronounced "Core", although nothing you can do to stop the youtube comments now lol

Jupiterninja

Just another day for the Survey Corps

Carlos Salazar

Then luckily they ease off on it in later seasons but yeah it is a bit disorienting at first

Nick

Finally! The end of the epic but incredibly long Trost Arc. Hold onto your seatbelt, because the pacing in this show is an absolute thrill ride. You'll spend a whole arc in one location over the course of a couple days/hours and then in one episode flash forward months/years in advance, I mean we've already had the two year time jump that just happened in an episode intro during the training corps arc. It's jarring to put it lightly, you'll get used to it though if you aren't already.

benj

Yeah I'm really enjoying the Survey Corps so far :) Not only are they the ones who volunteered for this kind of work but they're also the few that have survived all this time... No way you can get through that without being intense

Alex G

The fact you started this video by pronouncing Survey Corps like "corpse" is hilarious given that their signature move is dying.

KJ Gaona

The people you meet in the Survey Corps are all very extra/odd people, but I guess that's what you should expect from people who volunteer to leave the safety of the walls, and travel into Titan territory. Everyone from the Commander to the Squad Leaders are oddballs- the perfect place for Eren and friends. Honestly, I think it's great though. They are all so interesting in their own ways.
