FMAB 34 Reaction Extended (YT link below)

To be fair, in the context of the conversation Edward is clearly more so referring to the perjudices and grudges born from racial tensions when he refers to ignoring race. He isn't treating everyone the same, he's treating everyone as equals. Which means respecting their differences.

BirthdayParty

I think Many people think the key to racial harmony is acting as if tho race isn’t a thing and we’re all the same but that ignores the history Trauma and culture that make us who we are imo the key to racial harmony isn’t to what Ed phrases as “ignoring thier race “ it’s actually aknowlaging and respecting everyone’s differences and learning to appreciate them I love my culture it makes me who I am and I wanna learn about other people’s culture and understand other people that’s the true path to racial harmony

Elijah baker

It does take place in the early 1900s, though

MooTuu

I think Ed was just disappointed the coffee wasn't free :D

Ruma Risto

If that were true then 100 cens would be really cheap for a cup of coffee and Ed wouldn't have reacted the way he did

Nathan Jarrett

I really enjoy when there are end credit scenes, makes them seem longer, haha.

jdthebud

Yeah I'm loving the show, and the episodes seem to be getting shorter lol

Alex G

I'd definitely suggest doing the same. I forget how many eps the finale ends up being currently. Also if you can, there's a blooper track the dub people put out that you can watch after the show ends, it's not too long.

Kamolak

Al, the poor thing, he's been in that suit of armor body for so long now he's come to think of that wisp at the top of the helmet as his hair. Losing it and looking in the mirror feels like that "oh crap this is a bad haircut" moment. Except it doesn't grow back. He's really still retaining his humanity by thinking that way though.

Kotryna

I love that scene because it is true. Discrimination is sth you do when you are privileged. They can't afford it; discrimination might actually cost them their lives.

4Tom4lepus4

Yes this is true, 1 cen is equal to 1 yen

The Bird of Hermes

I don't know if this is correct or not but I always assumed cens were pretty much equivalent to Japanese yens.

Ruma Risto

It makes total sense with her character too. She’s not really racist because her whole life is in Briggs now, and that life is harsh. She values strength, no matter who you are. No time for anything that doesn’t bring progress I love her character

Nick

Olivier describing it as "the luxury of discrimination" is such an interesting take imo. Luxuries are something you partake in during your free time, not out of necessity but because you want to. It portrays it as petty and something Olivier doesn't care for.

Noah C

The ending with your disappointment to realizing it was the end cracked me up. Shows how much you are getting into the show when every episode end is pain.

Jonathan Canfield

You're right. Thanks!

Alex G

Just need to clear something up. Amestris is the country, not the city. Fort Briggs is still in Amestris, but at it's northernmost border with Drachma. The city we've been spending so much time in before was East City [before Mustang's transfer] and Central City [where Bradley and Father are].

Mason Griff

That last scene with Olivier drilling Ed and Ed simply replying with "I cannot answer that" is almost a perfect echo of Roy and Alex' conversation right after Hughes' death! Just like Roy, Olivier is intelligent enough to infer that Edward being unable to answer means someone even higher up command than herself has ordered the brothers not to talk.

Say

You know a show is good when the episode ends and your just dreading to go to the next ep.

chi hong

Lol yeah they are just flying by these days

Alex G

I may have misspoken. I think the message I got was not that it wasn't a genocide, but that there were atrocities on both sides during the war, which makes sense.

Alex G

That's a good idea. I did that with the ATLA finale and I appreciated being able to watch the finale as a whole.

Alex G

Yes! I didn't talk about it this episode but thinking about it later I realized how much I enjoyed that scene and his character

Alex G

Haha yeah it seems like their loyalty is to her first and the military second

Alex G

These episodes feel offensively short and I hardcore ruined my sleep schedule because of these cliffhangers because I just couldn't stop :D

4Tom4lepus4

i'm not sure who said in the manga the Ishvalan war was more "both sides did bad", i read the manga and they may have gone more into detail about the war, but it was still clearly a genocide and was portrayed as such.

Francesca White

That reaction to the cliffhanger lol. I’m sorry to say but as the show approaches the end there will be more. The last several episodes of the show are pretty much entirely connected. Honestly don’t think any of us would blame you for binge watching those ones

Nick

I really look forward to your face/reaction everytime an episode ends. It really brings a smile to my face

Nyashaxo

I love this arc!! Can't wait to watch it with you

Margaret

Aargh! Episode 35 is one of the best episodes!

Norrin Radd

I really felt that reaction to the cliffhanger lmao. So cruel.

Etsch

This was the cliffhanger that shouldn't have been. I did not think for a second that the show was over. This one hurt.

MikeWest

The Briggs story arc is so damn good, probably my favorite part of the show.

Mr. White

I get the frustration tho, this episode is a lot of set up.

T-mo

The conversation with Miles really steals the spotlight this episode for me and really helps build his character and adds so much depth to the Brigggs roster.

bl0odm1st

The faces you make every time an episode ends are amazing! One thing I love about Olivier is that, like Roy, she's the kind of leader who inspires strong personal loyalty and I have no doubt that her soldiers would follow her into hell without question if she ordered it
