I'm not a fan of internal musing either. XD But, I don't mind it if the "announcing" is actually useful--like to explain something that may be confusing.

Soleil

I didn't like the first episode until after I'd seen FMAB twice--once I understood and could unpack everything. In hindsight, I think it's a good episode, but it's still in my least favorites. The redeeming factor was definitely the water alchemy, which coming from ATLA was amazing.

Soleil

Rewatching the series while studying and i'm very glad you switched to the dub, it's very confusing hearing Hange as Ed xD

Fredo_Credo

The most current season made everything so coherent and the set ups were amazing. The last season is coming out soon too and I think it would be a show that fits your idea and style.

Henry Law

Basically if ur not watching these to upload reactions to just watch the original then the movie to the original then brotherhood and then the movie to brotherhood XD its what i've done...twice XD excited to go on this journey again with you :3

Brimmy

yeah you're finna love these dub voice actors

Zavooloo

The dub of this animenisn I one of the few dubs I praise.

Ramon Cintron

Nothing is wrong with it but a lot of people if Ima not mistaken voted for him to watch the dub version. Both versions are fine but at least imo some of the cast is better, like Mustang, scar, Bradley, and Kimblee

Nick

I was mostly referring to the claim that they pack more into the beginning than the original did. I definitely agree that the original has its own unique and amazing themes and twists, but by skipping it and going straight to Brotherhood the only real "loss" is all of the early development the original gave us. I definitely love both versions.

R. Lewis

Dub or subs, you can't go wrong, although since English is not my first language, I prefer subs. So glad you are starting this show!! can't wait!

Digital Milan

Same, I grew up with the dub but still prefer the original (sub).

Blique

The 2003 anime takes off a lot stronger than this one if you ask me but Brotherhood is far superior as a whole. Maybe you would get the best experience if you watched the first 10 episodes of FMA and then migrated into Brotherhood? :D Also, what's wrong with the original (subbed) version? I actually prefer this to the English dub.

Ruma Risto

SO excited for your journey! Absolutely in my top 5 anime it’s just so good...... cant wait for more !!

Mima

Hey Alex, you mentioned before that you wanted to move to Japan, and even lived there before at one point? Can you speak or read Japanese?

Jon

Any time an anime has an obvious spot for a commercial break, I find myself dramatically declaring the title in the manner of FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST.

Kingsley

That’s not necessarily true. The original supposedly also carries a much darker tone at times, and people have cited certain twists in the original as fantastic. The most common take I’ve seen is that the original is not as good as Brotherhood. But both are still fantastic

Nick

The reason why everyone was so impressed with Edward was because he could do alchemy without any transmutation circles. Each circle does one particular "spell", and you noticed that most people would have to draw it or have it inscribed/ tattooed on themselves/ objects.

Jackie

Oh man, between this and Dragon Prince I am so excited to watch these again with you. I understand the need for a few subbed episodes, and I can't wait for the dub. As for the whole original/Brotherhood deal, the only thing you really miss out on is extra development for Hughes's relationship with the brothers early on, since they assumed you already pretty much know who he is, as well as a few developmental side plots for the brothers as they're looking for the Philosopher's Stone early on. But while I love both shows, Brotherhood is definitely my favourite, and I can't wait for more.

R. Lewis

This is the extended version (the embedded video) Let me know if you have trouble playing it and I can send you the Vimeo link

Alex G

Is there no extended version?

Purple Dawn

Im so glad Im starting the journey with you because it always looked like an interesting show and that first episode was great, interesting part is that at least the Netflix version I had a very different translation to English as you had for your reaction, I think its because mine is more of a literal translation and yours is to mimic the dubbed English translation but nevertheless, I found the Furher to be really powerful and I wanna know what its his alchemy type is because he just used a sword but didn't say anything or activate a sigil similar to Edward. Cant wait for more.

Juan Valencia

Oh pleaaaassseeeee watch it. It’s final season is coming up this December. I see what you mean in season 1 but my god season 2 and 3 are legendary. They plot moves seamlessly and I’m hoping it wraps up in an incredible way. I got the opposite effect from it. I always thought the creator of the manga had the sole idea from the very beginning. So please give it another watch at least to episode 7 and 8 wink wink

hays collins

alchemy is basically chemistry, its a science, all about balance

Sitasien

Omg that Roy charecter I was like his voice sounds soooo familiar and I looked it up and he voiced Sir Nighteye in My hero

hays collins

oh yeah this is amazing!

Sitasien

Attack on Titan was recommended to me by a staggering number of people the other day when I did the poll on YouTube about scheduling. I believe I have seen the first 4 or 5 episodes, but I stopped watching because I got the feeling like they were planting "mystery boxes," meaning they create big mysteries for the viewer before the writers have any answers themselves. But I spoke with the a friend recently who told me the plot is coherent, so I am reconsidering

Alex G

Ok how many anime’s have you seen because if you love lore you will LOVE attack on titan

hays collins

I have not seen this show I actualy tried watching but never got into it but I guess I’ll get into it with your reactions!

hays collins

The scoring of that scene was especially impactful. The music jumped out at me right away

Alex G

There's just one more subbed episode and then on to the dub :)

Alex G

Aww man, real bummer that you're starting with subs. I would have been totally fine waiting a bit longer for you to get the dubbed version. Still, I'm super excited for what's to come.

Sal Inger

Fr. Idk who the casting director on Funimation dub was but they did a great job picking the actors. All the actors killed it and Mike McFarland did a good job as the ADR director.

Kassandra

So excited for this, it was my first anime so it holds a special place in my heart. If you think this feels like an epic finale just wait until the actual finale! I like that you noticed the music, the song that's used when Isaac said they committed the taboo is one of my favourites from the OST. Was kinda weird hearing the sub voices although I've watched the show in both the dub voices to me just ARE their characters

malikparah

Awesome, I figured :) I can definitely see the parallels to bending. I was taken aback by some of it, like the frozen guard shattering. About the dub, it's a combination of a bunch of factors. Mainly I think it's just easiest to watch in this format, since the subtitles might be hard to read for some people. Also it makes it easier to edit since my Japanese is not where I'd like it to be lol. Aside from that I've gotten a lot more requests for the dub version. I can already tell I will like this show a great deal, and that means I will probably watch it again at some point with the original Japanese. That is what I have done for a lot of my favorite anime.

Alex G

FMAB has what is most likely the best dub in all of anime

Trevor

Soon :D

Alex G

I forgot they packed so much into this first episode! Don't worry, a lot of your confusions will start to be cleared up pretty soon. The magic system is sorta like if you took avatar but allowed for it to be "mature" rating. I can't wait to watch your journey! You are watching 2 amazing shows and I sorta feel spoiled being able to watch all that xD. Out of curiosity, why are you planning on switching to dub? is it easier to react to? do you prefer it to subtitles? Is it easier for most people watching? Just curious is all. Having seen both for this show, I think I personally like the subs better, but they're both well done. So pumped!

Aidan Pullen

Hell yeah! Glad to hear it. Some of the phrasing in the sub is a little bit off, and leaves out some subtle details that the dub manages to fit in. Plus, the dub dialogue is a lot more natural sounding in my opinion when it comes to how things are said. (And of course, Armstrong's dub VA is just glorious.)

Aaron Ong

ah man, can't wait for you to hear the silky dub voice of Bradley!

NitrousOxide19

"I love how he is announcing what he is doing" That is the worst part about anime, though. lol

Drake Chuckle

I can go back and watch it :) The DVDs arrived today.

Alex G

So unfortunate that you won't see the second episode dubbed! The dubbed narrator sounds amazing, and his first major lines start in the second episode (same guy that said "Fullmetal Alchemist" in that commercial cut.) Anywho, I'm so glad you're finally watching it, and that you're picking up on some of the deeper details so quickly! I can tell I'm gonna love your reactions to this work of art.

Aaron Ong

Thanks! I'm really excited for this :)

Alex G

That's hilarious because I've watched through episode 2 and I actually said that exact thing the 2nd time I watched the opening haha

Alex G

Yes, finally, looking forward to your reaction and insights! Btw when you said what kind of alchemy was that when Ice attacked the King, he was using his own blood to create the weapon just when like he attacked Edward moments ago. So essentially bloodbending!

Paul

Nice video!!! I'm really excited for more of your reactions to this show!

Kassandra

i'm so excited for this! the first episode is actually like my least favorite so the fact that you're already enjoying it is great, it's only up from here!

Francesca White

Yeah it's like bending but allowed to be more violent. The prison guard thing was surprising lol

Alex G

Just chiming in to say I 100% expect you to memorize the opening to this and perform it like you did with ATLA! I'm one of those rare few that only saw the original FMA, but never got around to FMA:B. I am aware of some of the changes though, particularly in the early show, so... Yeah, this should be a fun ride. :)

Rachel Espiritu

Its nice that your reaction what water benders can really do if they are frozen.

chi hong

So excited to witness the journey with you!

Trey Coulter

so hyped for this!

NitrousOxide19

YOOOO! So excited

Nick
