Featuring the Kuvira-mobile.

And the climax of "Fruit Saga."

Korra Season 4 Episode 11 Reaction (Extended)

Comments

I think Kuvira does actually love Bataar but to her the mission and the empire come first. She sees conquering the Earth Empire and ruling it as her duty or whatever and she probably has come to also enjoy power. So while she does love him power and the mission come first in the end even if it does hurt.

Kassandra

The only thing I'm confused by is why you're so convinced Bataar was being manipulated by Kuvira and that she didn't care for him. He was there every step of the way from the very beginning, they even started the "revolution" where they left together. Su said Kuvira poisoned Bataar against her, but that is simply her rationalizing that her son turned against her, not a fact. I do believe that Kuvira actually loved him but that she always put the mission first. That's why she actually sounds sad - I don't think she was faking it.

Haha happens to the best of us! But it is just hair it'll grow back ^_^

Brimmy

I cut my hair, badly. Advice to my future self: Make sure you know which clipper extension is which before you begin...

Alex G

Haha no plans right now, but we'll see what happens the next time people complain about my white wall :)

Alex G

Very fitting comparison :)

Alex G

I think you might find this meme funny LOL https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/525430796182618124/773392455885389885/image0.jpg

Life Mushroom

Love the undertale reference.

Purple Dawn

"people can't read" HAHAHAHAHA YES EXACTLY lmao yasss melon queen yasssssssssss also i forgot to ask yesterday but did u get a haircut?

Brimmy

And that is why she took the domes apart. Side note, Durian King will haunt my nightmares for many nights to come. Can we expect a thrilling sequel to the Fruit Saga when the rewatch commences?

R. Lewis

The whole fruit saga has been incredibly Captivating and this was especially epic! Great job man! Loved the music in it too. This would be cool as a video game I can picture it.

Official Jrem

That ending was more emotional than persona 3

Henry Law

Remember the line disassemble the domes? Well now you know where the metal for that thing came from

Ramon Cintron

A giant death star version of you :)

Alex G

That's a great idea. I'd love to see that as well.

Alex G

speaking of the kuvira backstory episode, I really wish/hope they'd create like a lost files version and make that episode and release it now. the amount of longing I feel for seeing what they had in mind for that episode almost drives me crazy. I feel like all the voice actors would be down, considering they did the live reading of the comics a few months ago. even if mike and Brian charged people through some weird website I would pay whatever it was. anyway random thought, sorry.

Brooke

It’s actually super smart of kuvira to use the platinum domes that can’t really be metal bent to make a massive mech cause she’s aware of Korras power she’s really thought of almost everything you know it’s bad when the villian plans for a giant version of you

DrowsyCody

Haha yeah it's a lot. This is basically it though, there's a short epilogue coming in the last episode, and that's it. After that I will probably compile all the skits into "Fruit Saga: The Full Anime"

Alex G

this melon lord plot is getting insanely complicated. We need a recap on it tbh for everyone to get an update lmfao this is some serious channel lore

benj

Personally I have no problem with it. I guess part of it is that it's not really that the suit itself is so devastating, it's the cannon the suit carries. And if you're going to have a carrier for it, you may as well make it look cool. I also like that Kuvira is controlling it through bending.

Alex G

Thanks :D It's been a fun outlet. You're right, the backstory probably would have done a lot for her character and motivations. I wonder if Bataar would have been included somehow?

Alex G

One thing I want to touch on is the Kuvira-mobile. It's... really not popular in the fandom, it's clunky and awkward, and I think we all know the vulnerabilities of giant mechs on skinny legs. Like, geez, you'd think Kuvira's never watched Star Wars. But it's worth considering that weapon technology did not develop the same way in the Avatar universe as in ours. Our real-world weapons are all more or less derived from pointy sticks, which became swords and spears and arrows, and even our guns and missiles evolved through that same engineering process. However, the Avatarverse didn't develop that way. Why would they ever need to invent gunpowder when they can firebend? Why refine the art of rifle barrels when you can just launch rocks (and later, finger-fling metal plates)? The most common and effective weapons in their history aren't handheld; their best weapons are their own bodies. While our cultural history is full of mythical swords and spears, the most dangerous weapon in Avatarverse history is... a giant 7-foot tall woman with wide hips and a bad temper. So when we think of the biggest baddest superweapon imaginable, we envision some sort of weapons platform, but it's only natural that when they do, they'd envision a really strong humanoid body.

Rachel Espiritu

Thanks! And yeah, it's believable that at one point she cared. They have a long history I'm sure, and she didn't always seem to have these tyrannical ambitions.

Alex G

THE RETURN OF SWEATER LORD!!!! wow top 10 anime fights of all time, easy. Lol seriously I love these wacky fruit saga episodes, you're a genius. About the actual Korra episode, Kuvira kind of lost the plot here for me. How can she be this much of a sociopath? Perhaps if we'd gotten her backstory as the writers intended we might know what set her on that path. And yes, Bataar Jr. is extremely disappointing. I wonder what would make him so insecure that he would so blindly follow Kuvira right off a cliff. I know he felt in his father's shadow, but there's got to be more to unpack there.

Fane Alexander

If I were Bataar Jr. there's no way I'd be able to face Toph after this lol

Alex G

Toph is probably very disipointed I kinda wanna see her wreck him

Elijah baker

I think what you said about that being Korra's original intention makes the most sense. Otherwise it's sort of a weird threat to make... that she's going to babysit Bataar for her entire life. Bataar seems to fall for it, but maybe he's just tired and wants to go back to Kuvira's side? I'm guessing Korra didn't expect her to fire the laser though lol. Katara murdering the girls in Ba Sing Se will always top the list of most devastating attacks in Avatar, but this episode was pretty destructive as well. :)

Alex G

I thought so

Alex G

Dude great work on the fruit saga I know it took a lot of work also I do think kuvira might have felt something for baatar Jr but at this point the power has gone to her head

Jay Crigler

They address it in the comics

hays collins

Sorry Ikki 😅 And yeah I love Zhu Li. Varrick's gotta step up!

Alex G

I felt like I was watching Homestuck at the end.

Kris Ivory

I love when Korra goes into military mode. giving hand signals. I bet Bumi appreciates that haha

hays collins

I do think that Korra intended to make Bataar Jr. realize that his feelings for Kuvira weren't equally reciprocated. Although it's never explicitly stated, that was my initial thought when this episode aired. I don't know if that was the actual intention by the writers but it's what made sense to me. Also, the destruction of that United Republic outpost and the attack on the ships at Republic City struck me for some reason. It just seemed so explicitly murderous compared to a lot of the other action we see in this show. I remember in Season 1 they wouldn't even show planes being shot down without also showing parachutes afterwards alla G.I. Joe. Although, I suppose ATLA had some comparable violence as well. I'm reminded of when Katara murdered those poor upper class girls in the river back in Tales of Ba Sing Se. Side Note: I'm loving the adventure of Melon Lord. His journey is inspiring. Also Melon Lordette is basically what happens if you combine Ariana Grande (specifically the Victorious/Sam and Kat era of her career) with Numbah 3 from Codename: Kids Next Door.

KJ Gaona

Dont know if you figured it out by yourself but this is what they used Zaofus domes for. Thats why Kuvira said dismantle the domes

hays collins

That ending was a trip tho!

ComicalSkate

That's a good question and I'm not really sure. It's probably a mix of both. As Lorenzo pointed out above, she does seem to hesitate or feel remorse about shooting at him, but she also gives the audience evil eyes I think. She's definitely manipulating him to some extent. The love I'm less sure about.

Alex G

"I think Meelo and Jinora can do a lot." . . . Everyone always forgets about Ikki ;( I love how manipulative and cold Kuvira can be. She's even willing to lead Batar Jr. on to the point that she was straight up ready to murder the guy if things didn't go her way. That's wild. Even if she did love him at one point, that's obviously gone down the drain a while ago. I love how Zhu Li is finally standing up for herself and showing real depth. She's such a good character, probably one of my favs. Can't wait for the last two! And then the ATLA rewatch! and then whatever comes next! All hail Sweater Lord and Melon Queen!!!

Aidan Pullen

Hah I was shocked. I think they did a good job preparing you for it to arrive by train or tank or something like that. Instead it's basically giant metal Kuvira.

Alex G

I'm a little confused about her actual feelings. I definitely see evidence that she cares, but also she did the whole "devious eyes" thing when they hugged in the beginning lol.

Alex G

So do you think kuvira actually loves Batar Jr or is she using him

hays collins

SO how do you feel about the giant robot. Some find it a bit wierd but I love it and it makes an EPIC finale fight just wait!!!

hays collins

I know it seems like true manipulation, but the way I see it, Bataar does love Kuvira, and Kuvira (although misguided) does also truly love Bataar. The fact she quivered before firing at him, and she sighed sadly afterwards really points out that she's does have feelings for him. Its just that in her eyes, the mission comes first. Now I dont agree at all with that. Love should always come first. But clearly its not the case here. Cant wait for tomorrow's reaction man!

Can’t believe our dear Melon connected to the cosmic energy of the universe. So proud.
