Avatar Comic Reaction: The Rift

It's been a while since I read The Promise and The Search so I was really looking forward to getting back to the comics.

This time Toph comes along at least... but they leave out Zuko lol

The embedded video no longer works for me. It says: "Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here." Can you please upload a vimeo link?

Awesome, I'm excited to see the enthusiasm for the novels. I'm planning on reading them soon.

Alex G

Other than the comics, I'd also highly recommend the Kyoshi novels. They're pretty quick reads, and you get a ton of interesting backstory and lore on not only Kyoshi (duh) but also characters like Kuruk and Yangchen. Super good stuff.

Aidan Pullen

Lol I'm glad you caught that

Alex G

Dang. I just had a look but it does seem to be hard to find in the US right now, it's still available here so I didn't know. Looks like a reprint isn't happening for quite some time too, so I guess you'd have to go with a used copy or the ebook... I hope you can find it!

Joqu

Woow loved it thanks ☺

James Berry

You made me think for a second that master Yu and Xin Fu died in the metal cage and toph was responsible of it. You sir are a very unreliable narrator.

I'm glad! That was an experience I'm grateful for

Alex G

I get what you mean. The Search and The Rift are back to back comics with a great spirit

Alex G

I'm really looking forward to rewatching it as well so I'm hoping to start it before finishing the comics and do both simultaneously (though it might take a few weeks to get the ball rolling). Before I start the rewatch I'm going to be asking what kind of format you would prefer :)

Alex G

Awesome, I've heard so much about the novels. I tried to order Rise of Kyoshi last night only to find that it's out of stock on Amazon.

Alex G

The thing you said about religion and tradition really resonated with me. I grew up in the Christian church, and I always felt trapped, like there was something more. As I grew up I started trying to take inspiration from other traditions and religions, and I feel like my whole world and concept of reality has broadened, and I feel so much freer than I used to. It may have been a small part of the video but I really agreed with what you said about picking and choosing the relevant bits from even things that you don't wholly agree with.

Aidan Pullen

I really appreciate you making videos on the comics i haven't read them so it's nice to get a good summary it also makes me think of the kyoshi books that im currently reading the spirits have a role more similar to that of the comics. They are a bit more god like? I guess is a way of putting it?

Cody Taylor

Love the comic videos, but after your done with them will you be doing the ATLA Rewatch? I am most interested in that content tbh. ATLA only gets better with every single rewatch, so someone knowledgeable like you who actually cares about the show will prove to be a worthwhile rewatch.

Can’t wait for north and south

Glad you're having a good time with the comics, they're quite good. I'm not sure how you would do it, but provided you can find the time it'd be great if you could find a way to cover the two Kyoshi novels in bonus videos too. I think they're pretty great, especially the first one I felt was an excellent read. Very much an introduction to Kyoshi as a young avatar similarly to how the two shows cover their respective Avatar's beginnings. Due to the format they can cover a whole lot more than they've been able to in other mediums, and really fleshed out the ATLA universe for me as this believable world.

Joqu

Oh no, hearing Yangchen pronounced "yONG-chen" is giving me movie flashbacks 😭 😂 Anyway, great to see more comics! I had only read up to The Rift, so I guess I better get back to them so I can watch your future reactions having read them myself!

Neth110

It was interesting reading this because it's the first comic I read after starting Korra, and I can see they bridge the gap between the two shows. I will get to all of them eventually

Alex G

I'm sure haha

Alex G

Thanks 😂 The comics are a lot of fun so far

Alex G

Yay comics! There are so many things that relate to Korra and the comics really make the audience appreciate her more. She’s imperfect but, the comics really show that none of the previous Avatars are perfect either. Also they show that many of the problems Korra faced are problems she inherited from Aang. Just like Aang inherited the problems from Roku and so on. Don’t forget The Lost Adventures comics too!

yooyaahaa

The drip 👀👀😂 Im diggin the shirt and hat. Loved the comics btw

SupremeCai
