February Town Hall Recording - Sora, Unemployment, And Much More

Today's webinar was one of the best, most pivotal discussions so far! Skip ahead to about 15 minutes to where it really gets started.

I'd appreciate this as well. I appreciate the recordings, but confess, I tend to like to read transcripts!

Wendy Lee McNeeley

Sorry, didn't know where else to post. YT unsubscribed me after I joined your Patreon, maybe a month ago. So the unsubscribe finally happened to me. Legally, this is called Tortious Interference, when YT meddles in commercial dealings of other people. Perhaps someone should sue them over meddling with people's subscriptions so they need to pay $5 per unsubscription, per person, per occasion. For a billion a month let's see if enthusiasm to tolerate subversive culture vandals is diminished.

Greg Thomas

Sorry if I missed this elsewhere, is it possible to get a transcript of this discussion and chat? Thank you!

I recently joined the community and watched the meeting last night. A huge potential for robots/personal assistants will be in aged care. 1. Currently extremely difficult to acquire staff in the sector, so robots could well fill the void. 2.Having a personal robot at home for cleaning, cooking etc could keep more people in their homes a lot longer. They would also provide security by contacting emergency services if something went wrong.

Ric Raftis

Listening to it now, this is so good! "Feel the AGI"

Hi Joe. Nice that you help people. Gives one faith in humanity;) And you are right about odd jobs & volunteering - so that helps with both keeping busy & meaning but the big kicker in many of these similar “loss” situations might be loss of “intimate audience”…as in no one might listen to Dave Shapiro anymore, or my closest colleagues maybe leave area because they’re replaced, the widower has no wife to worry about his prostate with, the robots at the cash register’s only simulate small town hellos, the retired conductor has no choir, etc. I do think the people who dislike or don’t really need intimacy or prefer simulated reality (or however I could describe that personality type) will fair well. It’s funny - the thing I’m looking forward to most is high speed hover trains so connect cities across America. I wanna be a traveling fool ;) What about you? What would be your favorite future amenity?

Thanks for sharing that interesting perspective. I've found purpose during my current "irrelevancy period" by caring for my retired neighbors' yard work and snow shoveling.

Joe Hrdina

Thank you, Dave and everyone who shared questions. I'm catching this post-live.

Joe Hrdina

Wonderful concept the “Town Hall” …. Without the usual politics.

Authentikitty

The “laid off by AI” experiment is “the space” 60-70ish people live when the go in quick succession from empty nest to retirement to widowhood. The feeling of fear of irrelevancy that you described is spot on. Anxiety abounds. Add in a little AI. Holy cow. New scripts are absolutely needed.

Authentikitty

I'm preparing to be amplified.

Joe Hrdina

Amplify humanity FTW! Gret session Dave!

And now to go make my AI system simulate being human and lose its job to build its empathy algorithm.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, this is by far the best platform for this sort of curated discussion. I feel like everyone gets their questions answered and there's a real synergy (buzzword I know) but the original inspiration was that in my one-on-ones I would get the same kinds of questions over and over again so I was like... why don't just hold a public forum?

David Shapiro

That was great! Thank you. I appreciate how you use the Q&A upvote while also tracking the chat. Makes for a very engaging community experience.
