Added 2025-05-05 23:30:09 +0000 UTCThere is no bigger franchise in the video game business than Grand Theft Auto by Rockstar Games. So naturally, fans of open-world criminal mayhem descend into wild dot-connecting in the years before each hotly-anticipated release.
The next installment, GTA 6, has been delayed and is now slated for release on May 26th of 2026. This is despite many assurances from Rockstar that everything was on track for the game to come out in 2025. Alas, this will be another Christmas without an ultra-violent crime simulator wrapped beneath the pine tree. Sad! But at least Rockstar’s long silence gave us some great theories.
Rockstar’s trademark hush-hush routine has turned GTA fandom into a sweaty detective bureau: Reddit sleuths pore over patent filings, numerologists map release dates to moon phases, and anonymous “insiders” drop breadcrumbs. In this episode we sift the signal from the speculation and ponder whether weaponized silence is part of the new marketing playbook.

The other cost that Julian is taking about is for inference or the cost of computing the LLMs output. That is what balloons costs and would mean every time you play, it would have to actively metering your compute, for every npc interaction. $$$

Literally every time it’s just at someone’s house, smoking weed, and whenever I end up with the controller I just immediately steal a vehicle, preferably a motorcycle, and accelerate until I hit something and basically just repeat. Sometimes the cops get involved. NPCs keep calling you about dumb shit. I’ve never done a mission. 8/10

2025-05-08 04:06:42 +0000 UTCAfter listening again to Jake's origin story on liking jank games, he should try playing The Beginner's Guide, I think, as long as he goes in aware it's less about gameplay and more a meta narrative deconstruction of amateur game design, made by same person who developed The Stanley Parable (an equally meta deconstruction on, I suppose the limitations of videogame freedoms) - A solo developer with their own distinct voice, it gets surprisingly emotional at points too

I don’t care about video games I guess but the part about the people Thinking those nodes were different islands was entertaining. Back to more pilled stuff. Toy marketing or non marketing… just hard to get excited about. I admit I did think GTA 6 came out when I was 30 and I’m 41 now so this episode did save me from some minor embarrassment in a conversation I will probably never have. 🤷♀️

People are finding out the games made 20 years ago even 25 years ago, were better. Bc they were made by people who loved gaming, and storytelling. World building. Today developers are rode by the investors. The disneyfication of gaming. Games used to be better. The youth are realizing it slowly. All my favorite games were before 2010. They were just better. Graphics do not mean the player is more engaged with the world. Interactivity, community, and overcoming difficulties makes the world. Graphics, skins, dlc, all overrated.
