Usually this podcast just washes over me but this was a rough listen, just so embarrassing. Maybe it's because I talked to one of the four Oculus angel investors for a couple hours, because he was interested in my passion project, which funny enough is kind of the diametric opposite of VR. He thought I could build my thing up to maybe $50M but I'd have to ignore my wife and kids for 5-10 years. He told the story that the Oculus/Facebook deal got sealed at the exact moment his wife was going into labor with their first kid and he bailed on her in the delivery room to go to the meeting. I was just like "Huh, yeah nah, that's fine, I think I'll just kinda stumble through on my own, see what happens. Thanks though." You kind of expect the money people to be like this but it's rough to hear about how the actual inventor guy is even further-gone. It's kinda funny how the overall effect of VR existing in the world is on one side we have one cool game, Alyx, which is about the same length as an Ingmar Bergman movie, and 5 years old. And on the other side, there's a new defense contractor with a hyper-competent crazy guy in charge of kamikaze drones. In the VR game you kill invasive aliens, the defense contractor kills real people who in the insane, warped world view of the people working there are invasive aliens.
