Fear and Sheriffs in Las Vegas feat. David Gilbert (E276)
Added 2024-04-28 17:06:37 +0000 UTCSo-called “Constitutional Sheriffs” fancy themselves as the real life version of Judge Dredd: the ultimate arbiters of the law according to their interpretation of the Constitution. Recently the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) held a conference in Las Vegas. Among the speakers were regular features of the podcast disgraced former General Michael Flynn, convicted former County Clerk Tina Peters, and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.
Our guest WIRED reporter David Gilbert attended the conference, and he told us all about what he saw at this gathering of conspiracists and pseudolaw enthusiasts.

So you can't even say ONE nice thing? "They seem to know how to dress well for cold weather." See? It's not that hard to be positive.

2024-05-05 15:36:42 +0000 UTCRemember Cliven Bundy and his violent family and followers? They’re all about crazy shit like this. About 15 years ago, they emerged from somewhere in Idaho to express their feelings about the evil government…by invading a local federal bird sanctuary! And a nearby Native American burial ground. These pinhead patriots found a tractor on the site and of course destroyed those burial grounds, along with fences, buildings, and computers. Being who they are they were naturally well-infiltrated by a few different federal agencies, the same people that, when the competing conspiracy nuts started infighting and getting itchy with their guns, prevented a circular firing-squad. After a few months of pointless and illegal antics and making the lives of the local rural community miserable, and showed no signs of leaving. Finally, they were lured into a roadblock where some old dude with a giant cowboy hat decided to try his a quick-draw with an FBI agent. What happened? What usually happens when a deluded amateur goes up against a pro. (They donated his hat to his grandchildren.) The Bundy’s are still out there. From that strain of American culture come Randy Weaver, David Koresh, the monster McVeigh, the oath keepers, proud boys, extremist christian preachers and congregations, militias, and a bunch of people who all insist on telling us how patriotic they, and only they, are.
