All I can fathom is that - like my q-believing family member - they don't have much else going on in their lives or, what they do have, they feel they have little control over. Once they join the "community" and feel accepted, seen, & part of a tribe, it's hard to pull them out bc it becomes part of their core identity, not just something they like or have an interest in. At that point and far down the rabbit hole, there's almost nothing too insane or weird they won't believe or even try to do. I mean, ffs, some of the anti-vaxxer communities as of late are literally drinking & snorting borax to help with colds & sinuses... if the last few years & listening to this podcast have taught me anything, it's that there may literally be nothing too out there, bizarre, batshit, or nonsensical that people will or are willing to believe.

2023-09-25 11:43:28 +0000 UTCWhile the disconnect is eloquently implied in Donie's reporting, the idea that anyone would find Negative 48 a calming presence in their lives, one they could go to sleep listening to, is insane to me. The nonstop jabbering of the sacred gematria of what? English language alphabetical order? turns my stomach. Protzman was so transparently broken but to his followers he remains this serene, beatified prophet.
