Episode 226: Trump Indicted feat Allie Mezei

Folks, we got ‘em. Donald Trump has been indicted — or as Trump himself put it at Truth Social: he has been “INDICATED.” Manhattan prosecutors are accusing Trump of falsifying business records with the intent to conceal illegal conduct connected to his 2016 election. Will he be hanged at GITMO for treason? No. But what will happen? Lawyer Allie Mezei helps us break down known facts of the case and some possible future scenarios. We also discover how the QAnon community is reacting to the revelation. Spoiler: they’re still trusting the plan. Finally, we’ll take a peek at a new insider anon on 4chan  who doesn’t quite have that Q magic.

Great episode! In the very unlikely event that trump spends even one symbolic night in jail, he will absolutely retain his Secret Service detail. Former presidents get that for life.

Yeah but if he had simply structured the payments differently it wouldnt have been a problem, this going after him on a total technicality for something totally de rigeur in politics. The idea that paying people to sign NDAs or catch abd kill stories is some kind of abberation in US politicis is INSANE.

I'm the resident paranoid conspiracy guy at my office and all my coworkers know I have basically zero exposure to normal news and come to ask me about stuff as a kind of sanity check to media narratives. They were all pretty disappointed when I explained what the case is actually about and how low stakes and kind of trivial the allegations are.

Marcy Wheeler has the best take on this case by a long shot. https://www.emptywheel.net/2023/03/31/trump-has-attempted-to-cover-up-that-he-cheated-to-cover-up-cheating-in-2016-at-least-six-times/ If Bragg's case is that Trump committed financial crimes in order to cheat in the 2016 election, then we have the core intent. His intent was to prevent his voters from learning about Daniels and McDermott. He cheated in countless ways in 2016. He barely beat Clinton and had to cheat to do so.

ah, this is what I needed. everyone around me is foaming at the mouth, and I'm feeling-- welll_ what I think 'nonplussed ' should mean instead of it meaning "confused" What is that... 'unmoved'? How do you find synonyms for what you think the definition of a word should be even though it's not? whatever, great ep.

This is an aside - but I would love for you all to do a piece or say a word about Tiffany Dover and her updates! I think her story would make a great addition to the pod

It doesn't require any actual act of violence, more to do with failing to follow safety protocols or regulations etc that lead to death. As always, intent is important in such courts. - - - - for example, from the wiki page: 'Examples include the crash of Aeroperu Flight 603 near Lima, Peru. The accident was caused by a piece of duct tape that was left over the static ports (on the bottom side of the fuselage) after cleaning the aircraft, which led to the crash. An employee had left the tape on[1] and was charged with negligent homicide.'

Overzealous Euthanasiast

Yep. New York state law - criminally negligent homicide is a class E non-violent felony.

Did this lady say negligent homicide is a nonviolent crime?

"no american citizen can be sent to guantanamo bay" was a disgustingly smug thing said. amaricans are abhorrent people running torture camps world wide

Travis is handed the reins and the first thing he does is relitigate his beef with Marjorie Taylor Greene, because of course he does.

Did she say “facts”? I didn’t notice

I love how Allie gets on a roll talking about "facts" with her accent, like Jill Wine-Banks does.
