On the subject of pop culture depictions of Black Goo, I really loved the Dutch horror series Ares, which is one of the best depictions of secret societies I've seen since (I'm going to try and be vague enough to avoid spoilers,) it eventually brings it back to the fact that the real atrocities aren't even a secret.

No personal protective gear was warn on a foreign planet? The crew went out to explore and touched things and breathed in spores? No one was effectively quarantined when they came back to the ship? i stopped caring about all of them about 20 minutes into the film because they all deserved to die based on the decisions made!
