The habsburgs were originally from Switzerland too. They tried reclaiming their ancestral lands repeatedly and it failed

Ruth Kiszka

Jake, my brother and I were obsessed with those Stephen Biesty books. Those were awesome.

megan

Yes. It is a bit of an anachronism but like they mentioned, it's just for modern people who may not be able to analogize it. You would be surprised that those were regular people too. You can go back as far as Greco-Roman times and they were shitposting then too (Martin Luther was not the first shitposter like they are trying to say, though, that's a little much). Back in the day Roman poets used to have poetry battles and send back and forth and insult one another in the most creative ways possible, also insulting all of the aristocracy and their way of life in general. In Athens, they would come to the assembly square and have long political debates with no winner. There is a long and storied history of shitposting in civilization. It never ends, it will never end. One of the most horrible disgusting smut novels was also written in that 17th~ century timeframe. Really, there was just a lot going on. It's true the printing press supercharged it. Prehistory man: bro my handprint is bigger than yours. skill issue

foxy

Ok seriously though are we really making a comparison between people who get their information from some guy on YouTube living in his moms basement and the philosophers and alchemists of the 17th century

Volontia

Those kooky Lutherans are at it again

John Cromley

Sounds like that boat guy is on his way to have a his own Chymical Romance. 😏

If you'd like to know some stuff about this history, and specifically the transition of western Europe into modern capitalism, without the scatalogical humor, tides of history podcast is a very thorough history podcast available on stitcher. Patrick Wyman is an incredible historian with a vast knowledge of antiquity, the middle ages, and the early modern era.

"passing ideas through the anus of the mind" is poetry

skrrt vonnegut

The best kind of poster.

David Fellner

Appreciate the cross over, I've been interested in learning more about this time in history and the ultimate poster

John Engelbrecht

So, the first poster was a shitposter?

Rayketh

Don't think we didn't notice that sneaky giggle from Julian after "Goose" was mentioned. GOOTS cult represent!

Overzealous Euthanasiast

yea this was just a big dud. Just Matt Christman plugging his knock-off drunk history like an late night infomercial

Albert Koyra

I love this, so much of this history kind of ends up in America as, "yada yada, Martin Luther, yada yada King James, yada yada Shakespeare".

Mags

These last several months of QAA Matt episodes have been really fun. He's gotten a lot better at learning to be a guest and smoking less weed before coming on to talk lol

Will

really? i was hooked. found it so riveting. these guys are great to listen too! heading over to their podcast now.

Bad opinion

Steven Hedley

I mean look what happened when we invented radio.

Clammy_Damp

I think you’re kind of missing the point. The crux of this shit (maybe)is more about how new communication mediums fracture our understanding of our realities and how we fit into them. As Luther fractured Christendom, the prevailing social and spiritual paradigm of the medieval and early modern worlds maybe Q or the internet or whatever has fractured our ideas about what is real? But heck I’m fairly drunk so maybe don’t listen to me.

Clammy_Damp

Nope. The side projects Matt and Chris do are always highlights of my podcast diet

Jamie McAfee

no

Smooth Shrek

Fucking snoozer boys. This is like listening to your 20 year old roommate who's a religious studies major rattling off names right after he takes a huge bong rip. "Martin Luther was the original shit poster bro" [spark spark, gurrrgle].

ASL

Since this was a interesting look at some history and what people bought into, the QAAP boys might find it fun to rip Mel Gibson's Braveheart apart on movie night or just a regular ep. That "film" is a paramount of historical bull-shit and disinformation.
