Premium Episode 166: The Anunnaki & Ancient Astronaut Theory

Mesopotamian gods? Or ancient alien astronauts? We explore the "Anunnaki", a term familiar to anyone who has watched the History Channel, Gaia TV, or Ancient Aliens. But the tradition of this so-called "ancient astronaut theory" was actually popularized in the late 60s by a Swiss hotel manager turned best-selling author. From there, it flourished into a hugely popular belief system and industry.

I learned to translate Akkadian in Grad School, I never got these answers.

I used to love sitting down with a pot of coffee, a joint and Chariots of the Gods. Great way to waste a lazy Sunday.

Before Qanon came along and ruined the fun of conspiracy theories, Ancient Aliens was one of my favorites. Granted, I've never personally believed aliens came to earth and built stuff or whatever, but I'm fascinated with the bizarre, so I liked that someone did believe it so much they made a tv series about it. They'd be showing a carving like, "If you turn your head to the side and squint your eyes, it looks like he's flying a space ship!" And by golly, they were right! It wasn't a space ship, but that someone thought it was just made the world more interesting for a little while. Thanks for the throwback to cute, cheeky conspiracies, you know, before they started threatening democracy and, like, the time-space continuum.

Hi boys, now that you're posting both regular and premium episodes to the patreon feed (a move I wholeheartedly support), is there any chance you could tag the episodes as Premium or Regular so we can just click the tag to find all the premiums grouped together?

Excellent episode that I enjoyed on a flight to Geneva, "Total Whackadoo Nonsense" is my new favourite phase. Thanks again!

I think you guys should check out the Bradley Cooper horror film Midnight Meattrain I'd love to hear some thoughts on conspiracy influence on art and film

These strange theories is what began my interest in conspiracy theories and how people associate with. At first, I just thought how strange that one’s person can deny the empirical evidence that contradicts their preconceived reality. Bu I as I begin to dig deeper into, I soon realized that this was not some harmless denial, but dangerously believes that people are disassociated and even though the common pattern and connection between civilizations were not we are all the same, but aliens did it. Therefore, all these people were incapable of this and are inferior. At that pint, I began to understand why those who believe this are quick to accept racist doctrine.

All I can think of is Stargate on this episode. Pretty fun episode though, way better than Stargate
