Premium Episode 160: Left Behind (2014) Movie Night

Nick Cage faces the rapture and we look into the brain behind the original "Left Behind" book series series: Pastor Tim LaHaye. We also chat about why Nick Cage stooped to this level (it's related to the purchase of a dinosaur skull). Our guest is Allie Mezei.

What frustrates me about this episode is that it makes me want to go back and listen to the incredibly well edited audio dramatizations. Listen, I grew up evangelical trying to divine the signs of the time, street preaching and demanding my friends and foes get saved. Im not that way anymore but from a myth perspective the audio drama is just much better done. The guy that plays Nicolai Carpathia is the best villain ever. Chloe is still annoying as fuck balls. Hattie has an incredible incredible chaeacter arc.The movies have and will always suck. But like in order to even enjoy them its like youd have to ignore the proselytizing and how terrible Tim LaHaye is (I didnt know much about his life) . Hahah i would just fast forward. To Annie, the books grapple with the fuckery of the times WAY more! I love post apocalyptic stuff and whats amazing is that shit never gets better...ah good ole Christian suffering. Anyway Im sure if I relistened Id pick up on mlre of the problematic shit, but Id also prolly just keep laughin my ass off at the insanity of it all.

I wish they had discussed the video games more because I remember reading one review that said some of the units in Satan's armies functioned like the priests from Age of Empires, except they walked around carrying guitars and converting people with sinful rock music. Or something like that.

Thank you for watching this so I won't have to.

This is a double dose of depression for today. Holy shit, what do these people think? I used to see those "in case of the Rapture, this vehicle will be unattended" and always had a smile on my face. They may be only ~1/3 the votes, but they're getting better organized. I suppose I should worry more about the old bumper stickers that say "Drop the Bomb and let God sort them out"...
