Oh man Connor's story hit me so hard. I'm basically in the same situation, except our relationship is otherwise good and we want to stay together, but I found out that my partner is fully pilled on pizzagate, and doesn't believe in Q only because "that's a psyop created to make the rest of us look bad because we're onto something". 😞 I always knew my step-children weren't vaccinated, but I assumed/was lead to believe it was their other parent who was causing all the problems there - turned out when we had our own baby just before the pandemic hit that partner and their whole family is actually antivax. Our relationship is otherwise great in so many ways, and everyone is entitled to their own way of seeing the world, so I feel like I just have to learn to live with this and they have to learn to live with me, and having you guys to listen to as an outlet has really helped, thank you, you've helped me stay sane and able to see I'm not the only one going through this. The hardest bit is when the Libertarian streak that this ideology encourages gets tinged with bits of fascism, and my partner can't see it because apparently as long as something is 'anti-government' that means it's leftist/anarchist. As someone who has spent my whole adolescence and adult life working in anti-oppression and also trying to personally embody those values this is particularly hard to stomach, and leads to heated arguments, because I just can't keep calm while explaining to someone who is so important in my life why it's not OK to just throw disabled people or whoever to the wolves. Partner and a lot of our friends are very hippy, and that's been another disappointment in recent years, seeing how many supposedly counter-culture people have gotten swept up in reinforcing all the old heirarchies (e.g. TERFism and ableism) and had their revolutionary spirit co-opted by these very 'traditional' values. I guess I'm just very disillusioned, sometimes when I'm at work I really feel like we're getting somewhere with decreasing marginalisation, and then I look around at the world and I'm just, lost for words.
