Premium Episode 74: The Conspiracy To Teach Intelligent Design Creationism In Public School

A divorce. A mid-life crisis. A man born again. His multi-pronged, incredibly sneaky quest to take down Darwinian Evolution. Plus Travis goes harder than we've ever experienced and writes a special missive to one of the guys behind Intelligent Design. We do a dramatic reading, of course.

I grew up Lutheran, can confirm that Lutherans are vicious haters lmao

Love this episode. I went to a private Christian school from kindergarten to my senior year (Im an atheist now and gay, so man did that one back fire on my parents lol) and we was taught “intelligent design” in science and bible class. I remember my teachers making fun of evolution by comparing the probability of our evolution to the probability that a can of coke cola would come from evolution. All this to say, love this podcast, reminds me I’m not the crazy one when I have to converse with my homophobic, racist, highly religious qanon parents. You guys really are awesome and remind me of listen to my eldest brother and his friends rant about this type shit. Hilarious and on point👌🏼

Wow Travis! Thanks email had me in tears. That came out of nowhere haha

I am catching up on old premium episodes, but damn is this one ever a goodie. As a scientist, I frequently feel like we are screaming into a void of illogical nonsense. I loved hearing Travis go from being more reserved to fully on the warpath. Thanks for sticking up for science, boys!

I went to a small private school and part of “science” class was being taught young earth theory through old videos of Kent Hovind, l think he would tour and give speeches at churches to encourage creationism and give “evidence” of a young earth. Years later l found out Mr Hovind was on Ali G and got owned by real scientists.

Better yet, find the videos!

Not to mention the idea that evolution was a “religion” and teaching it violated church and state separation. Wish I could remember all the “proofs” from the YouTube videos my 8th grade science teacher played.

As someone who grew up being taught young earth creationism as science this episode was a trip. Remember being told that the existence of apes disproved evolution by my science teacher and encouraged to debate others about it.

This ep was nostalgic for me. Spending time on pre twitter internet, debating creationists on skeptic forums. Realize in the end that we won and move on to obsess about other stupid stuff on the internet. Travis, you and I are brothers of the soul!

Great ep, thanks! Unfortunately, though, the stay dropped at the beginning about 40% of Americans believing in creationism in some form or other means that we are all, permanently, completely f*cked.
