Premium Episode 49: Machines of Loving Grace feat Dale Beran

Project One. Community Memory. The first message board in history. We track how the techno-utopians of the 60s and 70s gave way to otakus, image boards, 90s nihilism and — eventually — the incel & alt-right movements. Dale Beran, author of the book It Came From Something Awful, joins us to explore how activism and technology have been transformed by capitalism & marketing.

The chans came long after newsgroups/usenet (the text ones anyways) kind of died off, by the mid '00s, in the late 90's I posted a hell lot on alt.drugs.psychedelics up to 2006, also alt.tv.simpsons, alt.tv.futurama and I still upload stuff there (infinite space backup) and download stuff from Usenet to this day, the binaries (programs, music, movies etc.) are still alive and well, it's only a shame most ISP's closed their Usenet servers, my previous cable modem internet ISP closed theirs in late 2008 and everyone received an email about it on their ISP given email address that "newsgroups were a great way for people to connect for a long time, but as of now social media has replaced it", social media already existed, just not in those billion dollar big tech companies controlling everything. They really closed it because they couldn't throttle the NNTP protocol because people with their higher-end speeds (back then it must have been 200mbps down/ 75 up) users downloading from usenet so much it would "clog" their network) which is BS, they were likely pushed into doing it by our equivalent of the MPAA up here in Canada. Usenet days rule, it's sad I can't find all of my old posts on the google groups archives, they removed some groups, like alt.drug.psychedelics because most posts there now were links to scams, maybe just 15 users left posting I recognized when I look at it from my own usenet client. It's sad how some really epic threads are now memory-holed by google, who are the only owners of the usenet archives, after they bought it from the old site dejanews. *sigh* . btw the media is now picking up on how Thomas Schoenberger is part of the Q mind control/scam. Ron Watkins resigned from 8kun when Biden won the election (major fucking sigh of relief to this, even if he's really really not that great, but thankfully the D's know he only wants one term. Check out the article on Schoenberger by heavy.com , lestat, the youtuber who was part of building Schoenberger's websites, who is a mexican is dropping the truth about all of this, how he is connected to Flynn and even Bill Binney....whom I once considered a hero, I guess the others in the NSA 5 that spoke out about Bush's illegal warantless wiretapping of basically the whole world but especially the US itself to the NYT in 2004, who published their whistleblowing a year later, when it didn't matter as much, it would have crushed Dubya if released in October 2004 as expected and we wouldn't be in as much as a mess as we are now if they had done so....so I guess Russ Tice is the guy to look up to now among them. Binney indeed became part of the psyop...shit
