Premium Episode 7: Psychology feat. Karen Geier

We explore the psychology of QAnon, conspiracies, and cults — including a lengthy interview with writer and journalist Karen Geier who is currently studying cults & blood libel myths. We also experiment on Jake, only to find out we've been coddling his sanity and he's become dangerously well adjusted.

Three of four of Philip’s sisters married nazis. He participated in nazi parades and more. Elizabeth’s mom and sister are also giving the salute. These lines aren’t hard to read behind despite being in the British navy later on.

This was interesting but, “you know.”

Prince Philip being a Nazi would have been news to his commanding officer when he was serving in the British Navy during WW2. Karen Geier might have been thinking of his sister. The then-Princess Elizabeth was a small child when she was filmed doing the Nazi salute, and could not reasonably be accused of understanding the implications. Most people outside of Germany didn't see the problem, and Hitler was popular across all levels of society. Anti-Semitism was widespread, fascism was an intriguing new idea for many, and a lot of people liked "that nice Mr. Hitler". Most of them changed their minds, thankfully. That's an interesting topic, thinking about it. How did the British government change the minds of the population from "What this country needs is a Hitler" to outright antagonism?

I once randomly came across the movie Haxan playing on the channel TCM (Turner Classic Movies). I didn’t know anything about the movie. It was a weird experience & most of the time I was just like “WHAT the heck am I watching…?” 😂 But then I’m like “Weird but intrigued. What is this…? When is it on again… I need to record this to watch in full!!” lol

I really enjoyed this episode. Belief systems are always something that has fascinated me, & that includes conspiracy theories. (To the point that I’ve probably believed some conspiracies myself that I’d embarrassed to admit now.) My heart goes out to Julian & to Jake for describing about loved ones, friends who they witnessed in the grips of mental illness. That is so tough.

I love Haxan! Great movie

unmorality

Uh, there are people who are literally worshipping Poseidon-Neopaganism and Polytheism is a thing (both growing the past few decades), and Pop Culture religious movements do exist, but most have nothing to do with cults. This isn’t to say the Metaphysical communities are free from Cult problems, far from it, Kemetic Orthodoxy is one one of many, but I am surprised the guest is ignorant about this much less seems to think Atheism is the solution or default.

Julian and Jake may wish to try their luck at David Lynch’s self-devised system of divination, which is centered around license plates. Second time through -- this is a very absorbing episode. The experiment on Jake may or may not be ethical, but it was funny.

Enjoyed it a lot
