Added 2021-10-05 10:31:46 +0000 UTCHey, so that last post was short and rushed; thought I should give you more info.
Okay so as I mentioned, I have Pica. Have had it since 10 years old. The last time I was hospitalized (before covid) was also due to the condition.
That time, I'd swallowed small water balloons filled with stones; one of which popped in my intestine and caused it to twist.
That time I needed surgery (and thought I was done with this bs, after).
Last week though, I couldn't control myself and ingested around 1.5 to 2 pounds of glass vase fillers; which ended up causing a bowel obstruction. I tried to stop myself the entire time I was doing it, but my compulsion won (or I wouldn't be here now..)
I have a lot of shame in this, even though I know it's something not entirely in my control. I'm putting that aside now as a kind of psa; because if you or someone you know has pica, or just for some reason likes to swallow stuff... If they think something is "safe"; it is not.
I never thought vase fillers/marbles could cause an obstruction, due to being round and smooth... which may have been part of why I couldn't stop myself from doing this... But they can, and do.
So if you know someone who does this; please try to talk them out of it.
I wouldn't wish this hell with stomach pumps on anyone.

Sorry you have to deal with something similar >< I have tried drinking (crushed) ice before to see if that would... take care of it; but it doesn't. Best I can think of is like... small jawbreakers or something else that would take a while to melt. Assuming I even have the urge to do it again; cause after this, I have not, thankfully.

2021-11-16 09:56:10 +0000 UTCMy compulsion is to chew on things, whether they are wood, plastic, paper, fabric or even soft metal. I do often swallow some of the stuff though, but it's pretty finely chewed at that point. I always try to have something "safe" to chew on around me, whether it's gum, wooden sticks or pieces of plastic. Ever tried eating frozen chopped vegetables? I like them because they are healthy, low calorie things to keep my mouth occupied with, but in suitably sized pieces they could be swallowed whole too. They wouldn't stay frozen for long though, so I don't know if they could give you the feeling you crave, but they would be safe.
