If you're not up to criticism it might be better to skip this portion of the Docu Series reaction.
Sorry for how quiet we got in the later part of this reaction, this was just our honest feelings on our first watch.

I think it was so incredibly cruel to let Airi train with the girls for so long just to confirm that she was being cut after the shoots and debut preparations. I think Simon already knew he wanted Jurin to be the leader/centre as you can see Jurin in the position for Mascara prep before Airi was cut. She was already doing leadership around choreo and working closely with Airi. Simon should have made his decision sooner before getting Airi's hopes up. I don't buy the better off solo rationale either. I think it was an age thing, and the fact they already had 4 confirmed rappers. I noticed jurins reaction to the news wasn't shown, perhaps she didn't react well. Jurin also wasn't shown talking about Airi. Those two were really really close, so I wonder if it was a sore topic.

2024-06-16 01:55:01 +0000 UTCI think Simon kwew that Ari wouldn't make it in the final lineup pretty early (age wise), but he kept her around especially for the younger girls to learn from her until they were ready. Like a teacher / role model thing. It's not the nicest thing to do, but that's how you play this game sometimes, if you want to be successful in the end.

2024-03-22 10:25:30 +0000 UTCI cried so much for Airi when I first watched it, and I definitely think she would have seen more success as part of xg, even though she is doing solo stuff now it’s on a much smaller scale. I think she just couldn’t wait for whenever her debut might have been through galaxy. In an interview I saw with her in Japanese, she didn’t seem to harbor ill will towards Simon and said she’s still close to Rei especially. From the way Simon talks to her in this documentary, it kinda made me feel like he kept her in even though he felt like it was just kinda wrong, but because he spent so much time watching her grow it was hard to just cut her, and I felt like since she was the leader he wanted more time to be 1000% sure he needed to let her go, which is why it took longer, but that’s just what I felt. I also kinda wonder how common it is for people to get so close to debut and then get cut, if others get this close too and we just don’t know. Just to clarify, I’m not saying I agree with Simon’s decision, I’m just trying to think about why it happened the way it did. I totally understand your takes though and they’re completely valid (sorry for the long comment)

2024-03-21 12:36:56 +0000 UTCI can’t even imagine what they all went through at that moment, especially Jurin since she suddenly had to become the leader and that’s such a big responsibility to bear. I honestly had to pause this episode a couple times when I watched it for the first time since it was so hard to get through. I also noticed that they didn’t show Jurin reacting to the news that Airi wasn’t going to debut with them and while I can only speculate as to why that is, I feel like it’s probably because they were the closest and she most likely took it very hard.

2024-03-20 20:47:12 +0000 UTCcoming into the documentary already loving the debuted girls of XG, i didn’t think i would connect so much with others who didn’t make it. but i spent ep7 bailing my eyes for airi and the grief the girls experienced losing her. she was their backbone and from what we were shown, there wasn’t anything that looked like she didn’t fit in the group sound or style wise. so i think your anger is justified. especially bc they weren’t certain if she would be debuting, but still continued to include her in debut preparations. it was kinda cruel to her.

I'm still hoping once XG has had their first world tour finished, Simon will announced Airi as their first solo artist or even have her on as a feature in one of their upcoming tracks to promote her upcoming debut as one. As much as I loved Airi and Hikaru both while watching these, I personally couldn't see them in the same concept as the others and that's the thing about these group concepts is they have to not only be talented, mesh well with the other members but be cohesive with the concept. It's why in the first episode of the Le Sserafim docu we see a girl get kicked out of training despite being there for some time. Not that she wasn't working hard or good but she simply didn't mesh. Simon is going to be both the good and bad guy in every situation because he has to make those hard choices and I understand not being able to look at him the same. To be honest, I was very hesitant to trust him in general and still don't trust him per se with the girls. We all know how bad these companies can be. After watching this it was hard not to look at him as cold and calculating, which is sometimes necessary in the industry but watching some of their behind the scene vlogs made me notice something - He is ALWAYS there, even if he never speaks, even when they are just playing a game at an arcade - you end up seeing him play with them. So, yes, I think that Simon probably messed up while making this group but I also think that Simon is human and this was his first time making a group. It's why he put so much care into this and is continuing to nurture them so much. The fact he was willing to put all this baggage out on the internet shows me that he's willing to show us good and bad. At least, as much as we have seen. I'm hoping Airi gets a shot, a real shot, from Simon. But in the end, I think that overall, we got the best group possible out of the program because of his choices. Even if we all might have done things differently. Hindsight is 20/20.

Age is a huge issue when it comes to Idols. I don't agree with the decision

For the longest time I also couldn’t look at Simon the same way too despite the fact that the girls seem to have an amazing relationship with him now. I know he’s not completely at “fault” but I don’t like the fact that Airi was led on for a whole year only to be cut so abruptly. I definitely do not buy the “solo artist” reasoning also. Unfortunately this is a reality that every group out there has gone through but we never get to see it so on that note I think it’s important for documentaries like this to exist even if it does make us angry and upset. It’s not easy to be a part of the idol industry.

2024-03-20 05:54:31 +0000 UTCI'm sure any of the footage used with Airi they got consent from her to put in the documentary because like you guys said it is a private moment for her and I highly doubt they just put it in without asking her first. I also tend to look at it with a bit of a brighter approach because it shows how committed she was in that moment to continue with her dream and to keep pushing regardless.

My favorite song of hers is "CBD." You should definitely check out her stuff! She goes by her first name, Kamiya. I also love that Simon still follows her and Rei on social media, showing he still cares!

2024-03-20 02:26:51 +0000 UTCHonestly, it is justified that you are upset with how things turn out for Airi. But it really is a harsh reality that this happens to many of our fav groups. As for the reason why, I don’t think we will ever truly know the actual reasons why Airi had to be cut out so so last minute. Honestly, I don’t want to put all hate or whatnot on Simon; given his relationship with all the trainees really, he really does care about them and you can tell it hurts him just as much. No doubt it prob still haunts him to this day. The reason they gave is quite strange imo; if you think about it, even if Airi does go solo, she would only be second to XG which is the main focus. And that wouldn’t be good for someone as great as her to be put in. Again, we may never know the real reasons why she was cut. Not to mention, It was a risk at the time to have Jurin be made leader even if she already displayed qualities prior, to push her into that position once Airi was cut is SUCH a risk. I’m glad tho it turned out well in the end as with this context, Jurin has become her own leader while keeping Airi’s light alive and well But in the other hand, and this is my personal thoughts, I just can’t really picture her in songs like Left Right or Winter Without You without sacrificing the other members parts which was already so good. This isn’t meant to be insulting either parties. If you want to know how Airi is doing, she does have her own YouTube channel and has been posting music on there. It’s not my taste but at least she is doing well.

2024-03-20 02:19:00 +0000 UTCi understand how u guys feel no need to feel sorry but im just curious she stayed for so long and was the leader so i wonder if there was something going on they couldnt show us cuz its just weird she stayed for so long to me. Hikaru and the other member are both doing their own thing now in keppie and chuang but i havent even heard from her anywhere. she def seemed talented enough i wonder why she didnt try goin somewhere else unless its just me and i havent heard she went somewhere to another label or even comoetition show like the other 2 but yeah its more so confusing to me.
