If you're interested, I still have stories up on Fictionmania and Literotica, and some of it is really early stuff, lol (quality not guaranteed!) It's a hot concept to have a character's entire personality erased / rewritten, but what then?
Some of my earliest memories was reading this kind of thing in the sci-fi novels of Jack Chalker, who was forever changing his protagonists beyond all recognition. Anyway, the answer (I think) is to bring your character back and have them process what happened to them. Poor Alex never really has a chance though.
