Patreon Tiers Revamp Poll
Added 2025-05-28 23:22:34 +0000 UTCWe are considering raising prices on a few Patreon Tiers in order to better afford continuing the content rollout that requires a whole team of people to make MLID happen. We only did this once ~5 years ago, and only for the very bottom tier for security reasons (seriously, going from $1 to $2 removed all of the trolls from the discord lol). Since then, the US Dollar has become quite a bit weaker, and so we think an extra dollar for a few of the tiers might be fair.
We have not done it yet though, and we also plan to add new perks to some of the tiers as a show of good faith if we go through with this plan so that you're still "getting more for more". Ideas on the table include new monthly content, the ability to call-in or submit audio questions to Broken Silicon & Die Shrink, and more recognition of supporters. Also, remember that the Annual Subscription option would remain in some form to allow long-term (or new and generous) fans a way to avoid some of the higher costs.
Anyways, we're still finalizing plans, and we want to hear from you before we do anything! Don't worry, it would be a very minor adjustment, but if it was - how big of a deal would it be to YOU if prices went up a dollar or something like that?

I'm a bit torn between "not caring" and encouraging slightly higher prices". The question is kind of nebulous to me without a range per tier to understand what the price increase will look like. That said, if the plan looks more like the $2 tier goes away and the $4 tier gets bumped up to $5 thus becoming the new entry tier, I could also understand that. I have two other content creators I subscribe to on Patreon. The one that has only a $2 tier just draws four comic pages a month asks for votes on story's direction. The one with a $5 tier does YouTube videos and analysis of the movie industry. "Moore's Law Is Dead" seems like of a higher end multimedia thing that would require a $5 tier.
