Most of the younger Japanese trainees had no idea what they were getting into, and many of them thought they were just going to Korea for an AKB stage show or something along those lines. 2. The Japanese members still had job commitments back in Japan that they had to honor, so they had to fly back and forth between the two countries with no real break time. 3. Outside of when they were filming the episodes, mnet did not provide translators, meaning that the girls had to either learn each other's language as best they could, or rely on the handful of Korean or Japanese members who were already relatively fluent.

2023-10-02 19:16:23 +0000 UTCI think the producers were super worried the show was going to come off as anti-Japanese and lead to a mass exodus of Japanese trainees. Kura, while clearly not deserving an A, because of the role she played as the most looked up to Japanese member, needed to be given an A (or B). The idea of this show (as discussed with the host) was super interesting. You had stage novices drilled in singing and dancing (aka the Korean trainees) and experienced stage idols who had never been taught most of the basics (aka the Japanese trainees). The question was could you merge these to get a group of stage ready idols who were drilled with the basics? Based on the post Iz*One success of Yena, Yuri, Eunbi, Chaewon, Sakura, and Chaeyeon I'd say yes.
