how hard is it to turn on a light bulb?

quite hard apparently! I had to upgrade the driver on my 24kW incandescent dimmer circuit because the SCRs were getting too hot. now after I ramp the bulb on, I can short out the chopper circuit with a relay. it's clunky, but it should offer longer run times without having to find a big heatsink or add fans.

it's funny how the bulk of many of my projects is just building power supplies.

Just power everything with 2000 car batteries. 😀

the toroid is just a current transformer I added so I can watch the current as I manually ramp it up. the red wire isn't part of the circuit, it's just one of the leads of my multimeter that happened to get wrapped up lol

The moment I saw this pic - relay sections in parallel for more current, controlled start of current then relay bypass maybe. Is the torrid at the rear with a black wire thru sensing current to another circuit or trying to choke the ramp. Not much then as the wire is not wrapped but the current is wicked high at the start. Then what's up with the red wire looped around the white wire paralleling the relay sections? I have to say your approach to keeping things simple in assembly and construction of the back rocks as you focus on the key parts of the design and don't get stalled by other parts aka wood works fine as a back.
