Patreon Survey 2021 Results - Part 3: Paid Content
Added 2022-01-05 01:32:00 +0000 UTCThis last part I've separated since it mostly revolves around paid content. In the previous parts I've addressed many issues. At the end of this part, I'll add some conclusive decisions resulting out of the survey (at present time)
Without further ado, let's get started on the paid content questions. The first question revolves around the Patreon Game. You'll be able to find some posts for it if you scroll back a few years. ;-)
When I asked you whether you'd like a reboot of the game:

Those 34% represent 23 people and when I asked them whether they want to play the game and how often, I got this answer:

As you can see, the result tends towards once a quarter or less. The number of people interested in it qualifies a reboot, so I'll do so in due time. I've got other stuff on my plate for the coming months, but as soon as I've reached a certain milestone, I'll activate the Patreon Game again. :-)
Next the question for merchandise:

16 people were interested in merch, and when I asked them what kind of:

This is a slightly tough call for me. I've been considering this during my daily walks, and have some ideas, but I'll need to find out how feasible they are in regards to cost/efficiency. I'm not against implementing this, but I regard my main task as translating novels, so I'll need to see how much effort it's going to actually require before implementing this.
Next I asked whether you want more Patreon-Only content :

45 people were interested in Patreon-Only content, and when asked whether exclusive content or faster release rates...

42 people wanted a faster release rate. The overwhelming majority of them also said they were willing to pay extra for faster releases. And when I asked which series...

...I was stumped and thought, welcome to my world. xD
Some of it I had already expected. But let me give you a rundown of what's possible.
Hachinan: I have expected that one, especially with the extra volume running right now. So I already added a new tier >> Associate Baron << for this one. If we reach 50 supporters on this one (2 have already registered), I'll add another Hachinan release on Thursday. The rest is up to you.
Spearmaster: I know that many of you want moar releases of Spearmaster. At the same time, the two chapters, at the current chapter length, already take up two days of my week since the raw isn't easy by any means. Spearmaster is getting quite a bit of attention because it reached the booster goal at 350 Patrons in the past (although it's close to losing this boost because of dropping patron numbers).
I'm not completely against giving you a chance to bring it up to three per week, but I mentioned in the survey, it'll require a lot of effort. Why? Because with 3 chapters Spearmaster per week, I'll basically cover half a week with Spearmaster, bringing it up to the content of almost one LN volume per month, and seriously clamping down on what else I can do. So, just like Hachinan, I'll set up an extra tier, where 50 supporters will keep it at twice per week, and 100 supporters will bring it up to thrice a week.
D-Genesis: This one is tricky. I'd do it, but there's only two LN volumes of content left. That's too little. If the author releases one more in the next few weeks, I'll consider it, otherwise it makes no sense since we'd be at Volume 5 by the time I can actually set this up.
Nidome: Contrary to D-Genesis, this one would be possible since it still has enough content. But it's too unpopular to reach any goals, and currently runs risk to be downgraded to once every two weeks instead as it's popularity is on the decline.
Dunbat: Impossible. We've almost caught up with the raw, and the author is a no show since October.
Analysis
I think overall you'll agree with me that the way I'm handling things isn't wrong. The survey gives me the impression of a generally positive rating, even if there are some smaller things I can adjust and improve on.
Part of those are pdfs/epubs for the completed volumes, a better handling for the last parts of splitted chapters, and more communication.
As for the bigger changes I'm planning:
The demand for more Hachinan is something I have expected and started to address before it became clear in the survey, see the new tier Associate Baron.
The lacking popularity of Overkill Princess is something I've already seen through the download statistics, and was essentially confirmed by this survey. I have started this Patreon-Only series as a test balloon based on what I like, but I have now realized that I went the wrong way about it. Sadly Overkill Princess is pretty much a flop with less than 10 people of 300+ reading it, thus it makes no sense to continue it beyond Volume 1 (which is a complete volume in itself).
Any new Patreon-Only series I'm going to first countercheck with you guys. There are some novels I have on my list that match with your tags/interests, but I'll first run a poll on them, before actually implementing anything.
I'll add a new Spearmaster booster tier in due time. Likewise I'll reboot the Patreon Game towards Spring 2022.
As always, I'm open for suggestions. You can reach me here, or on Discord. Or you can send me a mail at contact@infinitenoveltranslations.net .
If you have read up to here, I thank you for your patience!
Cheers,
Shasu
