Patreon Survey 2021 Results - Part 1: Your Likes
Added 2022-01-05 01:16:40 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
let me first express my thanks to all participants once more. I was super excited whenever I saw a new submission and carefully read all the comments you left me throughout the survey. Some things surprised me, some things confirmed my suspiscions, but most of all, all of it helped me to decide how to proceed with this Patreon. And be sure this wasn't the last time I asked you for your opinion in this way! :D
Before we get down to the results and the analysis; following four participants won the 25$ vouchers for participating (you can see the choosing on Discord in the Patreon-Only Lounge): Richard L., Seba B., SFCipher, and Taylor M. --- Congratulations! All four of them have already claimed their vouchers. :-)
Now then, a short explanation about the structure of the survey. I basically split it into three parts: Your interests/likes, your comments about the translation/blog/Patreon, and a part about paid content including Patreon-Only content, Merch, and the Patreon Game. As such I'll split up the results into three parts to avoid making the posts themselves too long and confusing (Patreon's editor is too obnoxious to structure things properly). My own analysis will follow in Part 3.
67 people have participated in total (68 with one trying to slip in twice actually. You know who you are! :p).
The first question was which series drew you into supporting me as patron.

As you can see, Spearmaster drew the most with Hachinan following. 11.8% for D-Genesis, 5.9% for Dunbat, and 8.8% for Nidome. No one for Overkill Princess or pure support.
Next the survey branched out depending on what you chose to ask you what else you read. I think it's moot to post the pictures for all 5 branches, so I'll simply tally the numbers per series here (first number) and the total count of readers per series including the above figure (second number):
D-Genesis: 10/18
Dunbat: 18/22
Hachinan: 29/47
Nidome: 21/27
Overkill: 5/5
Spearmaster: 11/42
This is interesting in itself since Hachinan is overall read by more people albeit having drawn in less people than Spearmaster. But then again, the difference between the two isn't overwhelming either. The most interesting one here was Nidome. Few people have joined the Patreon for Nidome, but relatively many read it as second or third choice. :-)
Then the survey asked you about your general likes in novels. I first provided you some common genres, and then asked you to give me some tags. Why did I ask you about this? To get a general idea what to choose, if I should pick up a new novel, be it as Patreon-only novel or as new general candidate.

I guess you can say Fantasy is self-explanatory. What surprised me a bit were the "high" ratings on Comedy and Erotic since the stories here don't really cater to these much.
As for the tags; there was a plethora of them. The most common ones were Isekai, Harem, Clever/Cunning MC, Overpowered MC, From Weak to Strong, Adventure, Magic, Action.
The ones surprising me the most were Yuri, Cyberpunk, Smut, Incest, Villainess
At least it shows me that mature novels with actual sexual content might also be of interest to some. ^.^
By the way, my own tags would be something like this (in no particular order): Dark, cunning/clever mc, light romance with mature aspects, comedic undertone, world building, deep character building, action-loaded plotline, fast-paced without fillers, multiple povs, and some more. But like one of you wrote as a comment in the tag choice: I'll read anything that's good, and I've got a good nose since many of the novels I bought over the years have been ever since picked up by English Publishers and even been animated. ;-)
Anyway, this wraps up the first part of the Survey Results. You see, it's gotten this long already, and we're just at a third. ;-)
