Hidden Details: A Fight for the Aegis

Welcome to the one-hundredth-and-fortieth episode of the Hidden Details blog!

Have you found some obscure reference or detail in this comic? A JoJo reference? A sneaky little Loss? A callback to a previous comic? Let us know what you've found in the comments! Every detail that has been found will be added to the list below. Once everything has been found, this comic will officially be marked with "all details found".

Link to the comic for your convenience

Please only comment with ONE hidden detail or reference!

There is ONE Loss, ONE Balthazar, ONE crewmate and NO JoJo references. Bonus panels don't count.

1: The comic title is a pun on "fight for the ages"! Glad you pointed that out, Alcaria! That doesn't happen often.
2: I'll give HaydenEatsShrimp and Generic Hero both a point for spotting Little Nemo in the first panel. Another obscure retro game character making an appearance!
3: I kind of love that it's hard to figure out the exact identity of the Fire Emblem character Incineroar is carrying throughout the comic, Karelia Cristina.
3: Yep, "Vaneltia" is still too difficult for Isabelle to remember, apparently. She misnames is Valeria in the first panel and gets corrected by Alm, as pointed out by Tejayes. But yes, it is indeed Ike.
4: In the third panel, there's a yellow butterfly fying past Bowser's head. This is a reference to Shulk's reveal trailer from 2014, in which a similar butterfly appeared. Can't believe that trailer is 8 years old, happy pasta.
5: This week's loss is in Nia's belt...thingies in the fourth panel. Good catch, VisionPlayer22.
6:
"Shite" is indeed referencing Nia's Welsh accent, FoxdocDylan! Initially I wanted to write all of her lines with a Welsh accent phonetically, but as a Dutch boy I couldn't figure out how to translate that accent to text, so I just went with the single "shite".
7:
Nia, Tora and Zeke all use actual arts and their corresponding shouts in the sixth panel, as pointed out by Akumi Sanchez. And yes Daniel Myhre, they do inflict Break, Topple and Launch!
8:
There's a little JoJo reference in the sixth panel: between Tora and Sandbag, one can spot a sneaky "ORA", just like Lukas Wandler did.
9:
This week's crewmate is hidden on Dromarch's head in the sixth panel. Quite a sneaky one this week if I may say so myself, A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends.
10:
Apparently, when Sandbag gets beaten up, he doesn't see little birds flying around his head, but he sees little Sandbags with wings. Good eyes, Trigger.
11:
The other fighters are exhausted in the background of the bottom of the sixth panel, right behind Rex, as noticed by Zach.
12:
Balthazar joined in on the Sandbag beating, apparently. You can see his silhouette along with the Xenoblade characters in the bottom of the sixth panel. Glad you noticed him, Lord Circe!
13:
This is an interesting one, Generic Hero: I didn't want to reference the Pac-Man comic in that final panel. I wanted to make Isabelle support Sandbag from the bottom, but I started drawing her head first, and by the time I had to draw her arms I realized they were too short to reach Sandbag, so yeah, technically you're right, it does look like she is once again too smol to reach the fighter they're celebrating.

Comments

I saw little Nemo portrait in the first panel right above incineroar

Pablo Mendez

I have been trying to figure out which FE rep it is myself

UnSaxon51

The butterfly in panel 3 references Shulk’s trailer in Smash 4, I believe.

Palmer Hugh

A nice touch to use “shite” to indicate Nia’s Welsh- er, Alrestian accent

Foxdoc

I'm not sure, but I think I see Loss on Bowser's right arm in the last panel...might just be seeing things, though

Rob Molivas

Nia, Tora, and Zeke's arts are the ones that inflict Break, Topple, and Launch respectively in 2.

Pokedude14

It's getting ridiculous, it's not like Volvagia is a hard name to remember.

Generic Hero

That comic title is fucking beautiful

Alcaria Swain

I think his name is Dromarch.

Dempsey Garcia

Bowser has experienced a micro aggression. In 2022 no less.

Noah

Bowser has the little Butterfly from the Shulk trailer

Onemariobro

Zeke and Tora's silhouettes are all tuckered out after beating up Sandbag

Zach

Much like with Pac-Man, Isabelle isn't quite tall enough to help lift Sandbag in the air (she's doing her best tho)

Generic Hero

I think that's Little Nemo from his NES game

Generic Hero

They didn't "change their mind", they hadn't known how to see them before, and learned later. Don't be such a bunch of sour grapes over it.

Lord Circe

There're some tiny sandbags swirling around Sandbag's head after they beat the shite out of him

Trigger

Crewmate on Dromarch's head during the Sandbag Attacks.

TrueZero2

Patreon does show exact timestamps. happy pasta was first.

Wooden Plank Studios

Zeke, Nia and Tora's cries are actual battle quotes and move names!

Akumi Sanchez

Nia?

Cameron Devera

Balthazar shadow on Panel Six.

Lord Circe

With the exception of the last panel, Incineroar is carrying Roy(?) throughout the entire comic.

Karelia Cristina

On panel 4, loss on the girls belt thing

VisionPlayer22

*refraze, purple hair*

HaydenEatsShrimp

In panel 1, there is a picture of (honesty I don’t know) a man in purple behind insinaroar.

HaydenEatsShrimp

In the 6th panel is an Ora hidden in the middle left side, a reference to jojo.

lawariano

There's an amogus on the dog-creature guy (idk I've never played xenoblade) during the chain attack

A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends

Isabelle still has trouble correctly naming the land of Velveeta.

Tejayes

In the 6th panel there’s a power meter on it. Not sure what kind of power meter it is. (I never played Xenoblade 2)

Cameron Devera

In panel 3 there is a Butterfly flying by Bowser. This is a reference to Shulk’s Smash 4 announcement trailer where a similar Butterfly flew by Bowser. (The Internet of course also memed this Butterfly to be the next fighter!)

happy pasta
