Hidden Details: A Valentian Effort

Welcome to the one-hundredth-and-thirty-sixth episode of the Hidden Details blog!

Have you found some obscure reference or detail in this comic? A JoJo reference? A sneaky little Loss? A callback to a previous comic? Let us know what you've found in the comments! Every detail that has been found will be added to the list below. Once everything has been found, this comic will officially be marked with "all details found".

Link to the comic for your convenience

Please only comment with ONE hidden detail or reference!

There is ONE Loss, ONE Balthazar, ONE crewmate and NO JoJo reference. Bonus panels don't count.

1: Well yes, the thief and the room in the first panel are taken directly from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. I had to work with very low-resolution DS sprites to recreate it, but I think it worked out quite well, Conner Kavanaugh!
2:
This week's loss is visible in the tiles in the background of the first panel, as pointed out by Nick Agee.
3:
There's a little Pegasus Knight flying by in the background of the first panel. I don't remember much from Shadow Dragon, only that there were a lot of Pegasus Knights in that game, Zanreo.
4:
The sign in the second panel says Byleth ♀, possibly alluding to a male Byleth existing somewhere as well. No idea actually Jon Brouse, I think I want to choose a "canon" gender for all the multi-gendered fighters in this comic series. Pokémon Trainer is female, for instance.
5:
The sign attached to Roy's bed says "Roy (FE)", since there's also another Roy in Smash (the Koopaling), as mentioned by VisionPlayer22.
6:
Isabelle is reading from a book called "FRAMBLAM, A Comprehensive History". FRAMBLAM means Fire Emblem of course. Not sure if I would trust a book that doesn't even know how to spell its main topic, Generic Hero.
7:
Incineroar isn't able to tell the difference between Alm and Celica and the other Fire Emblem fighters and to be honest, with the amount of Fire Emblem fighters in Smash, I can't blame him Noah.
8:
The Aum Staff brought by Alm and Celica has a little bow on it. So thoughtful, Tejayes!
9:
Balthazar is watching the fighters from behind the fence in the yard in the third panel. Good eyes, Dave Papworth.
10:
Celica mentions they heard fables about the Aum Staff in the east. This is lore-accurate: Fire Emblem Echoes takes place on a continent west of Archanea, the continent on which Shadow Dragon takes place and the Aum Staff is found. So yeah, it's not because of the religious symbol, Trigger ;)
11:
Much of the Aum Staff text is taken directly from the Fire Emblem wiki. It's also visible in Isabelle's book in the panels where she's reading from it. And yes, it is also the exact same as the text Isabelle is speaking, Zach.
12:
You know what else is visible in Isabelle's book in the fourth panel? A very little crewmate with the word "sus" above it. Good catch, Cameron Devera.
13:
The sign in the Fire Emblem fighter room has "Anime Swordfighters" crossed out and replaced with "Fire Emblem nerds". Seems there was a bit of disagreement on what to put on this particular sign, edmg7.
14:
CORRIN FEET, Tim Lockwood. This is a reference to the infamous copypasta which I won't post here for our own sanity. But yeah, it also gives me some extra time to decide which Corrin I'm going to use.
15:
Yes, Fighting Master! I didn't think anyone was going to spot this but I based the effect of the breaking staff on Breath of the Wild's weapon breaking animation.
16: It's hard to spot, but Chrom is lying behind Incineroar in the final four panels.
17:
Alm and Celica are confused by the concept of weapon durability. This is because Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is one of the few Fire Emblem games in which weapon durability isn't a thing. So it makes sense for them to not be aware of this mechanic, GabaLeth!

The details that haven't been found are written in italic.

Hidden Details: A Valentian Effort

Comments

The only part of Corrin shown in the past two comics is feet since you probably haven't decided whether to use male or female Corrin.

Tim Lockwood

They felt the need to specify female Byleth, since unlike Corrin they have a male form as well

Jon Brouse

This may not be intentional, but I do like that Celica doesn’t step in to use the staff as a princess herself. She kept her royal status a secret in her game for a while.

Kelly Culham-Erickson

Also Celica is surprised by weapon durability because Shadows of Valentia is one of the few FE games without weapon durability

Fruitsquish

Loss in the wall of the first panel, under the thief's arm

Fruitsquish

The book isabelle has there is sus among us in it

Hunion

Oh I see, totally makes sense

Trigger

Isabelle points out that there are "so many" anime sword fighters, based on FE being the 2nd most represented franchise (or 3rd depending on how you count Mario characters)

UnSaxon51

The staff was (presumably) in the chest chest the thief was looting like in Shadow Dragon/Mystery

Pokedude14

Actually, that's just how it looks in Shadow Dragon.

Pokedude14

It's simpler than that: the staff is from Archanea, which is to the east of Valentia.

Generic Hero

According to the Wiki, the Aum staff is named after an asian religious symbol, which could explain why they've heard tales of it in the East.

Trigger

The thief is wearing red clothing because in Fire Emblem enemy sprites are typically red

Conner K

Oh! Welcome to Patreon! 🤗

Cameron Devera

Alm and Celica are confused because there is no weapon durability in Valentia

GabaLeth

If you read Isabelle's book, it has the same dialogue that she's repeating.

Zach

The staff broke like link weapons in botw darn durability

Fighting Master

Not a detail but I meant Sephiroth’s new masamume after Sora broke Sephiroth’s old masamume.

Cameron Devera

In the fourth panel in the book we can see an amogus on the page.

lawariano

The Aum Staff has a cute little ribbon on the stem because it was a gift from Alm and Celica to the Smash House. Because wrapping paper would've been too much.

Tejayes

You can tell Incineroar is the one updating the signs, given how he is calling all the Fire Emblem characters "nerds" on the sign in the final few panels.

Lord Circe

Changing "Anime sword fighters" to "Fire Emblem Nerds"

edmg7

Someone flying on a pegasus in the background of the first panel

Zanreo

Incineroar is confused how Alm and Celica were revived because he thinks all Fire Emblem characters look the same.

Noah

According to the book's cover, we've all been pronouncing "Fram Blam" wrong!

Generic Hero

Balthazar behind the fence in panel 3

Miracle_AU

Roy's tag/sticky note differentiates him from the Koopaling of the same name Even though he was there first (although in smash 4 he got there after)

A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends

On panel 2, it specifically says roy (fe) to not confuse with the kooperling

VisionPlayer22

Loss is hidden in the tile pattern on the first panel

Nick Agee

Crewmate on the 4th panel!

Cameron Devera
