Hidden Details: Ink...things

Welcome to the one-hundredth-and-twenty-second episode of the Hidden Details blog!

Have you found some obscure reference or detail in this comic? A JoJo reference? A sneaky little Loss? A callback to a previous comic? Let us know what you've found in the comments! Every detail that has been found will be added to the list below. Once everything has been found, this comic will officially be marked with "all details found".

Link to the comic for your convenience

Please only comment with ONE hidden detail or reference!

There is ONE Loss, ONE Balthazar, ONE crewmate and NO JoJo reference. Bonus panels don't count.

1: Isabelle drew a plan on how to revive the Inklings on a whiteboard in the first two panels. It features a little mechanic I pulled from the Splatoon wiki: apparently Inklings die if they get splatted and their ghost can't find a respawn point in time. Dark stuff.
2:
Link indeed does one of his trademark grunts ("HUT!") in the first panel, Nunya.Byznyz!
3:
The gang has protected all of their furniture because someone (probably Isabelle) figured out it was going to be messy when dealing with splatting Inklings. Nicely noticed, Chj92!
4:
Lots of splatting going on in the second panel, I thought it would be funny to make Isabelle shout "SPLAT!" instead of "BLOW!" or something, seeing as it's the official term for a kill in Splatoon. Good catch, Jon Brouse.
5:
There's a picture of last week's bonus panel on the wall in the first and second panel. And yes, that is because Richter's ass is indeed art, A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends.
6:
One of the bombs in the first panels is indeed a bit sus, Cameron Devera.
7:
Another sharp observation by Trigger: the Sheikah Slate eye closes in the second panel when Link detonates the bombs!
8:
God I wish there was a kanji for Balthazar, Tejayes. But yes, he is indeed on Min Min's top in this comic.
9:
Min Min has a tiny little Switch logo on her hat in the fourth panel!
10:
I absolutely consider that a detail, Griffin Seeley! Min Min indeed pulls off her render pose in the fourth panel!
11:
Shulk's notes in the sixth panel say "energy needed: 420". It was either 420 or 69, Zanreo.
12:
Yes, I thought it would be nice to make the Ace Trainer from the Sinnoh arc make a cameo, edmg7!
13:
I think this is the first loss I've ever done actually. Back in one of the very first Smash comics I put loss in the Inkling's shirts so I had to honor the legacy and do it again this week, RainTheWolfie!
14:
Pikachu seems to be a bit frustrated with Shulk in the final panel. Indeed, as if he's saying "I told you we didn't need that much power", CSDX.
15:
The handsome Inkling faces are indeed a reference to (probably my favorite joke) in SpongeBob, Pandocula. Also it's because both Inklings and Squidward are squids... kinda.
16:
Interestingly enough, I did not know the respawn points in Splatoon had those pressure meters. I just added them to show the overabundance of power input by Pikachu, Pichu and Electivire, but as Daniel Myhre pointed out, they have those things in the actual game! And the needle even goes in the red as well!

The ones written in italic are details that no one noticed.

Comments

I don’t think this is hidden, but I never noticed that Isabelle 1&2’s bells were different colors

Kyuujin

Wait does this happen in Splatoon?

Wooden Plank Studios

There a picture a rictors butt from the minterigation bonus panels on the wall in the first panel

Matthew Gallelli

I’m not sure about Hero but perhaps the cables attached to the Electric Pokémon are Wario’s biker cables?

happy pasta

That’s a good eye you have there!

Shelby Kinkead

Idk if this counts, but the inklings are posed like handsome squidward

HB-Wanderer

BTW, are Hero and Wario just there to watch how it turns out or did they think they could help in some way?

edmg7

"No Jojo Refrence" BS, just look at those inklings posing

Wallace Megas

Just like in splatoon; when reviving, the needle does into the red.

Pokedude14

I just like how eager Link looks to detonate all those bombs at once. He's so excited he's back to basic grunts instead of words.

Nunya.Byznys

Pikachu is displeased with Shulk's calculations resulting in the improved inklings.

Noah

It’s Richter’s Butt from last weeks bonus panels.

happy pasta

Inkling boy and girl shirts form a loss on the last panel.

Ness Main

It seems that Min Min had a logo change in the 4th panel because it became the Switch logo at that point.

Chj92

Shulk’s notebook says “Power needed: 420”

Lillybug

Min Min and Link are using quick change ninja arts or something, as they are paint free in the final panel.

Lord Circe

Furnitures are protectet from the splat effect/ink

Cherry

I’m not sure if this is a hidden detail or not, but I just noticed a picture frame of someone’s butt in the first panel and I feel like I need some context for that one

Shelby Kinkead

Isabelle says Splat when the Inklings are blown up because that is the term used in Splatoon for kills

Jon Brouse

Balthazar is apparently a Chinese character, seeing as he's on Min Min's top.

Tejayes

The trainer who revived Pichu and Pikachu is back

Eevee Shadow Bacon

I like how the jumper cables are connected to Pichu and Pikachus cheeks since that’s where their electricity comes from

T-Dev-CCM

Pikachu is looking at Shulk angrily as if to say "I told you it was too much."

CSDX

I had a hard time finding one this time😅 Min Min seems to be standing in her render pose when she grabs Villager and Isabelle 2

Griffin Seeley

Shulk's notes have 420 (the funny weed number) as the power needed.

Zach

Handsome Squidward

Midnight Fred

I see an impostor in the bombs on the first panel

Luffink

Isabelle recruited the trainer from Sinnoh that revived Pikachu and Pichu to help with this.

edmg7

Crewmate on the link bomb on the first panel.

Cameron Devera

Inkling Boy's Shirt: Loss

RainTheWolfie

Inklings have the handsome squidward face from spongebob

Pandocula

The picture on the first panel is Richter's ass from last comic's bonus panels. Because it's art

A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends

Shulk has the funny weed number on his notes

Zanreo

When Link activates the bombs, the eye at the back of the remote control closes.
