Sunday piano meditation - no. 14

And here is the improvisation of today, it's the piano in Nürnberg again, the same as last Sunday. Sometimes it feels a little funny to write these more or less personal insights into the void of the world wide web - not knowing who and if someone reads along. But then I remember a quote I heard some days ago - as an artist, you should create your art, your music, your work firstly for yourself. The audience comes second. Everyone out there who's creating themselves will understand what I mean - you can only keep on creating things you like, when you like it yourself. You're not doing it for anyone else, you're doing it because you feel it inside you, because you want to express it - and then you might share it with someone else. But that comes second. I needed this reminder, that's why the quote resonated so much with me.

When you're just running after gigs or other opportunities, trying to network and cover all the behind the scenes work as a musician - you can easily forget to enjoy making music for yourself (and really just for yourself only), without sharing it, uploading it, releasing it. Which sounds ironic now, 'cause that's exactly what I'm doing here - but I did a lot of playing around within the last week, just for myself, mostly on the guitar (which is fun to fool around with, 'cause I've never learned it, so I have mostly no clue what I'm doing - which is exactly why I'm enjoying it so much). And honestly that felt great. And spread joy. :)

PS: We're in thoughtful dark green D minor today, in the first round of the scale I played a lot in major keys, that's why we're having more minor ones now as I'm doing the opposite mode of each one.
