Hey Dad #8 UPDATE CITY

Hey Dad,

Hope you're doing great. Just wanted to give a quick update today on what I've been up to.

Current Projects

I just finished up work on the Quantum Break video, which will be out this SUNDAY APRIL 16th @ 1PM EST. Make sure to look out for it early on Patreon as well.

I'm pretty happy with the end result. It was quite a bit shorter than Alan Wake, as I found there was less to say about the game in general.

I'm currently working on the Control video. I just started writing the script today. I'm shooting for release of that one on SUNDAY APRIL 23rd. The Control video will probably be a lot longer as well. There's a lot more to say about this game, a lot more lore to get into, more influences to talk about, and just a lot more that I loved about the game in general.

As for everything else, we are quickly approaching MERCH SEASON so keep an eye out for that. I have two T-Shirt designs that should be dropping within the month, at the latest they'll be out in May. Merch video is shot, just waiting on a final track and one final design. Keep your eyes PEELED. Once merch is in full effect I have plenty of designs that I want to make for the store.

There's also one more SECRET PROJECT that I'm working on right now. I started really working on this back in December/January. This is a new thing that I can't really talk too much about, but it's a huge passion piece for me. I'm aiming for it to release sometime in the Summer, probably around July. Easily the most work I've put into a project so far. So GET EXCITED.

Other Media

I haven't been doing a ton of watching/reading/listening lately as I've been really busy working on videos and other projects.

Movies

I haven't seen anything new lately other than The Whale. There honestly hasn't been a lot of new releases that I've been really excited for. The Whale was great though. I'm a huge fan of smaller scale movies. It mostly takes place in one spot. Small cast, really just drama heavy. Brendan Frasier was great, and I'm also a really big Darren Aronofsky fan, so I'm a bit biased.

TV

Lately I've been going back through Twin Peaks. I started this re-watch when i was working on the Alan Wake video, and I'm chugging through Season 2 whenever I get a chance. It's been a mostly great experience, but I'm in that lull period where David Lynch wasn't as involved and the show has some real down notes. The one storyline with James fixing the rich ladies car is a particular slog. But Season 3 is probably my single favorite piece of television so I'm excited to get to that.

If you watch my videos, you may not know that my biggest guilty pleasure in life is Reality TV. I love junk television, it's like eating a bag of potato chips in one sitting. Every once in a while you have to just sit down and get it out of your system. Lately I've been keeping up with Love Is Blind. This season has been absolutely nuts, and I won't ramble about this too much because I know literally no one is going to be interested. But, if you do find yourself enjoying reality TV, I'd highly recommend a Spanish series called Love Never Lies. Some of most dramatized, manipulative, crazy TV you've ever seen. Just nuts.

Books

I've recently been reading a lot of books for videos, so I haven't had a ton of time to read for pleasure.

I did recently read How Games Move Us: Emotion by Design by Katherine Isbister which was really good. If you enjoy a more research based approach to game design, I'd check this out.

In that same vein, I'm really excited for Brendan Keogh's new book The Videogame Industry Does Not Exist: Why We Should Think Beyond Commercial Game Production. It comes out in about a week and I've loved his other work, so I can't wait for this release.

Music

I've been listening to a bunch of new releases, so I don't really want to list everything I loved. But a few great things are as follows:

Black Country, New Road - Live at Bush Hall

JPEGmafia & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES

100 Gecs - 10,000 Gecs

Chat Pile - God's Country (Not new but really good)

Liturgy - 93696

And with that we end another update. I promise I'll try to make these more frequent, but lately I've been very busy and haven't had the time to sit down and write one of these out.

Get out there, enjoy the nice weather, do some cool stuff, and most importantly watch a lot of Youtube videos.

Bye Dad.
