Hey Dad Weekly #3 (Poll included)

Hey Dad,

I hope your week has been good. I'm a little late on getting another one of these text posts up. I've been working a lot lately, trying to get videos done, because even though it seems like it, Yakuza isn't nearly done yet.

The Yakuza 0 video came out today, which I hope you've all enjoyed! I'm currently working my way through the Yakuza 6 script. You'll be able to hear more about my thoughts on that game next week.

My schedule is currently incredibly full. I've been working on the Yakuza videos as usual, but I'm also taking on some other projects. I have been putting a ton of time and effort into a video for October, which I've mentioned quite a few times. It's going to be a shorter video, and not in my usual style, but it's and idea that I really like. You're also going to see my face a lot in this one, so get ready for that.

You should also be seeing a special video coming out on August 28th. That will also be another short video, but is something I wanted to make specifically for the long time fans of the channel.

There's also going to be another one-off Retrospective after Yakuza 7, before we get into the spin-off games just to break things up a bit. I really liked the way Dragon's Dogma performed, and I think that's a good idea for longer series. I also just enjoy talking about games that are isolated, it's a little bit of a breather for me.

I don't want to reveal too much more about these projects just yet. But look forward to the coming weeks, because I'll be revealing some information about this stuff on the Patreon first.

One question I have for all of my Patreon Dads before we venture off into Other Media, is about MERCH. I've been toying with the idea of merch for a while now, but it's an odd situation to approach. I figured the best way to foresee the turnout would be to ask all of you. I really want to make shirts that say something like "My Son is a Youtuber" because I think those would be funny. I could also make stickers with the logo on them. Outside of that I think I'd want a good and interesting artist to design some prints, because that's incredibly outside my realm of expertise, which is admittedly, pretty small. I'm going to put a Strawpollhere > https://strawpoll.com/polls/GeZAN73kVyV so that you can vote. There's going to be a lot of money and planning that goes into though, because I don't want to make bad, cheap merch. So before I get into that, I want to make sure it's something that's wanted.

Other Media

As for my adventures in other media, there's been a lot. I haven't been playing too many games outside of Yakuza lately, but I did get a chance to play a game called Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator. You might know that I have a guilty pleasure for management simulator games and SWOTS scratched that itch. It's a fantastic management game that puts you in the shoes of someone running an organ trading business. Through all of that though, it manages to build an interesting universe, and just oozes style. It's amazing, and I'd highly recommend it if you like management stuff.

I recently watched a show called Blackbird that I believe was only on Apple TV. It was a really good "based on a true story" kind of thing. It was mostly a true crime show, but it had enough other elements involved that it felt new and fresh. It wasn't just the same old, police trying to catch a killer formula, there's a lot going on there. The acting was also top notch, and Paul Walter Hauser (Jamie Taco keeps stealing my lines) was fantastic in it.

I've watched a ton of movies lately, but there's one that I really enjoyed. It was called On The Count of Three. It was amazing, well shot, incredibly acted and written. It deals with a ton of issues and is essentially a character piece about two best friends. It's a comedy/drama but the comedy is INCREDIBLY dark. If you don't like that sort of thing I wouldn't check it out. If you do, it's perfect and had me somehow laughing and crying within minutes of each other.

I also finally got a chance to watch C'mon C'mon which was amazing. It was super well written and Jaoquin Phoenix's performance was incredible. It's such a touching movie that asks some incredibly important questions. It made me seriously reflect on my own life and I didn't stop thinking about it for days.

I've also been reading Dorohedoro lately. I'm about halfway through the series right now and it's so fantastic. I loved the anime when it came out and just took too long to delve into the manga. Hayashida's art and writing is something spectacular. It's really funny but also really dark and serious. The world is easily the best part and the way she does worldbuilding is some of the best I've seen in manga. The whole place and society is incredibly interesting, you just constantly want to know more, but as you learn, you also get more questions.

That's all I have for this week. I'm going to get back to writing and trying to work on three projects at one time.

Bye Dad.
