Hidden Details: Roster Imposter

Time for another Hidden Details blog, this week with lots of juicy Fire Emblem goodness! Prepare yourself!

In the first panel (which is simultaneously super cute and super disturbing, in my opinion), you can see that Chrom's pajama doesn't have a sleeve on his right arm. This is a reference to Chrom's sleeveless outfit that is supposed to show the mark on his shoulder, but we all know he just wants to show off his right bicep.

Likewise, Corrin, who is a prince, has a pajama that fits his prince-like armor.

In case you don't know what's happening here or why Sakurai calls Lucina Marth and then Marthε: Lucina was a Marth clone in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS. Heck, she even posed as Marth in Fire Emblem Awakening. So it's only natural that even Sakurai can't tell those two apart. When she corrects him, he calls her Marthε. The ε indicates an Echo Fighter in Smash Ultimate, which is a fancy word for clone. Lucina is Marth's Echo Fighter in Ultimate and her official number is 21ε.

The blanket that Roy and Lucina are wrapped in has a sword-print. But not any swords! The two swords depicted are Falchion (Lucina/Chrom's sword in Fire Emblem Awakening) and the Binding Blade (Roy's Sword in Fire Emblem: Binding Blade).

Likewise, the three Ikes are lying under a blanket that has Ike's sword, Ragnell, on it.

Speaking of the three Ikes: the middle one is obviously Waluigi in disguise, but in case you were wondering why there's a regular Ike and a Buff Ike: that's because those two versions of the same character are actually playable in Smash Ultimate. In Brawl, Ike looked like regular Ike. Very boyish and lean. In Smash for Wii U/3DS, Ike turned into a huge beefcake. In Ultimate, Sakurai decided to give us the choice between the two, including both designs in the palette swaps.

When Sakurai is walking through the hallway, you can see Pichu's room in the left part of the frame. This is a direct reference to last week's comic.

I later realized the colors of the doors don't match, but oh well. Maybe Sakurai had someone redecorate the hallway in the meantime, idk.

Right behind Sakurai, you can see the door he just came from: the room of all the Fire Emblem characters. I'd like to point out that Buff Ike has a way more sophisticated handwriting than regular Ike.

In the final frame, Peach, Kirby and Pikachu are looking at the drama happening outside from the window on the second floor.

The sign that Sakurai is pointing to in the final frame is a direct copy of a "tweet" he once posted to Miiverse when he disconfirmed Waluigi as a playable character and confirmed him to be an assist trophy. "Just because you try hard doesn't mean you'll make it into the battle". I think that line is hilarious and super typical Sakurai so I really wanted to reference it.

And finally, as a bonus, I invite you to go back to the first panel. You can barely make it out, but if you look in the window, you can see the silhouette of an Alolan Exeggutor. When I made the Young Adult Red comics, I included an Alolan Exeggutor in every single one of them. I felt like referencing this reference for old times' sake!

And that's it! To close with a Fire Emblem quote: 今日も生き延びることが出来た。!
