2025-08-22 01:18:14 +0000 UTCIt is funny to me that when discussing how societies ritually construct manhood, the first example of a becoming-a-man ceremony they pulled was the bar mitzvah... when bat mitzvahs also exist and are almost identical to the male version, especially in non-orthodox communities. Like, I get why, but it's still funny to me that bar mitzvahs--essentially just a Hebrew school graduation--are the jumping off point for discussing like, adult circumcision and hunting an antelope.

His take is, logically, that they abandon gender rules entirely, and characters are often transitioning between men and women and back again. That is inline with the section about gender roles in abundant societies that you discuss.

Throughout history, marriage was essentially a merger and acquisition, with the wife and her assets as a product portion of the transaction. Nowadays, women work full-time, manage the household, and still do more of the childcare. A good vibrator and a pet can do wonders for being single.
