2022-12-10 00:55:26 +0000 UTCHow do you separate fads from facts? There are lots of food fads that come through society. How can we tell what is actually backed by research and legit or just marketing BS? Examples: low FODMAP, anti-inflammatory diet, Paleo, Keto, intermittent fasting, 1 gallon of water per day, superfoods, acai, AG1 (lol), collagen supplementation, etc. Thanks!

2022-12-09 16:45:07 +0000 UTCWhat are SMALL tweaks I can make to my eating habits? Big changes never last for me. My wife got me to stop putting sugar in my coffee and that stuck, but for example, going vegan would not.

2022-12-09 09:20:29 +0000 UTCI have a lot of friends/family on the keto diet. Some claim it’s good for lowering cholesterol. One person even told me to ditch margarine in favor of butter to lower cholesterol (she says the Keto diet encourages dropping vegetable oil spreads). This can’t possibly be true, can it? The Heart and Stroke Foundation definitely don’t support this. Thoughts?

2022-12-08 21:10:37 +0000 UTCMy wife has a lot of food intolerances (gluten and dairy chief among them) but as a result we end up eating pretty healthy most of the time. My question for all of you is, have you ever found an alternative food or ingredient you like better than the “real thing?” For example a really solid gluten free cookie or non-dairy ice cream. Thanks!

2022-12-08 21:00:59 +0000 UTCMy boyfriend just found out he is prediabetic, and is not able to see a nutritionist until the end of January. What are some good, filling, low-carb options for him to snack on? He prefers to eat like Mitch, pizza, steak, potatoes. How can we cut back on carbs but not make him feel deprived?
Amanda Garcia
2022-12-08 20:41:39 +0000 UTCIs there any health benefit from making things from scratch. I'm specifically thinking of Mitch's Bar Pizza, which is now a staple in our house. Does the subtraction of preservatives make a substantial difference? Thank you for being value to this shit show.

2022-12-08 20:39:31 +0000 UTCdietetics undergrad here - I've definitely noticed Wiger taking a slightly more neutral/flexible approach to the way he talks about food, which I appreciate* and I'm sure many listeners do, too. If your nutritionist is on the same page, I'd love to hear her talk about intuitive eating and pursuing healthful behaviors (eating nutritionally dense foods, exercising) regardless of current or desired body size. *both as someone in recovery from an eating disorder and as someone pursuing a career as an eating disorder recovery therapist. also just want to add, because I feel like this is an appropriate prompt: I love listening to you guys so much, but sometimes it sucks to hear you use "fat" as a pejorative term. I don't want to get on a soap box here, but if you ever want to talk about it, I'd love to discuss! thanks for all the laughs xoxo

2022-12-08 20:25:16 +0000 UTCDo you have suggestions on eating well when you don't feel like cooking? Years ago my friend and I were both struggling with how to motivate ourselves to eat well when we both lived alone, hated cooking, and were never going to spend time to meal prep. She decided to go to a nutritionist and they suggested she try to eat a simple balanced meal with things like popcorn, fruit or veg and yogurt. It sort of blew my mind that you could eat healthier and still be pretty lazy.
Maegan Harrison
2022-12-08 20:22:17 +0000 UTCA recent study apparently showed that we actually don’t need 8 cups of water per day, as this was a recommendation from the 1940s with no scientific backing. How much water should we actually be drinking? Related question: black coffee is 99.9% water, so does this count? I’ve always thought that the idea that coffee dehydrates you was a myth…thanks! — Andy aka TDR on the Doughscord
Andy Noel
2022-12-08 20:20:16 +0000 UTCDoes it matter what time of day you eat your calories if you are looking at weight loss? I keep hearing not to eat late at night, but I don’t see why it matters when you eat.

2022-12-08 20:18:59 +0000 UTCI've been told by my Dr. That I have to stop drinking alcohol, if I do that, is it okay for me to increase my intake of fast food?
Michael Martinez
2022-12-08 20:18:55 +0000 UTCI know fast food like fries and burgers are terrible for me so I eat in pretty extreme moderation (and let the doughboys do it for me instead). My question is how would you approach having fast food as part of a healthy day of eating? Do I compensate the calories by eating less somewhere else? Eat more fibre? Curious about your thoughts

2022-12-08 20:15:17 +0000 UTCWhat are some good snacks that are low in saturated fat? I really like peanut butter and popcorn! I need something to replace or at least mitigate my peanut butter or popcorn consumption.
Jacob Moore
2022-12-08 20:15:11 +0000 UTCHope this applies to more people than just me - at home, I stick to the low-FODMAP diet to help with bloating/IBS issues (TMI? Too bad). Then, when I go out to eat, I allow myself to have some of the foods I'm sensitive to - is this basically killing any progress I have? Or is it worth the mental comfort of being able to eat delicious things worth the (inevitable) bloat + sickness process?

2022-12-08 20:08:02 +0000 UTCI have struggled to drop weight ever since high-school. My weight always hovered between 195 - 210 lbs (5'10 Male, 16 to 24 y/o). Since high-school though I always worked in jobs that were highly active. It hasn't been until this year where I have dropped my food consumption down to one meal per day that I've seen any noticeable change (now hovering around 185). In your opinion, is it the AMOUNT of food you consume or the TYPE/VARIETY of food that contributes best to achieving one's weight goals? For me personally it has been the amount, since the food I chose to eat haven't changed much.

2022-12-08 20:06:46 +0000 UTCAre "grass fed" foods (i.e. butter or milk) nutritionally better for you than their counterparts?
