Hi everyone! I’m not sure if it’s too late but I have a question… I mainly don’t eat beef or pork for ethical/environmental reasons. However, I work at a boarding school where meals are provided, and sometimes a braised pork is just so much more appealing than the alternative (either tofu or beans). While I love beans, sometimes I just want the pork! How do I square my desire to avoid eating these meats with those times when I just want to eat pork?

I’m in the Middle East for the year and I live right next to a chain restaurant food court. One thing I’ve noticed is that while some of the chains (Starbucks, Hardee’s) are pretty much the same as they are in the US, others are way better - Pizza Hut for instance. Did you ever eat at restaurants that were just the knockoff or cheaper version of a more famous one? Growing up in Lexington KY (home of Long John Silvers) we had another fish restaurant called Captain D's (which apparently still exists!) and I'll never forget silently judging the family that showed up to the picnic with a bucket of Lee's Famous Recipe instead of KFC. PS. Captain D's has something on their website called the "D's Club" where you can sign up and receive whatever treats that entitles you to.

Has anyone ever totally overreacted to a food you find normal? I’ll never forget my childhood friend Drew sleeping over at my house, and my Filipino mom making fried rice & Spam for breakfast. My question has to do with excellent service, either at a restaurant or a grocery store. First I need to explain just how much this Costco employee saved my ass. I went on a rare solo Costco trip without my wife, and while I was loading the groceries into the car, I accidentally swung a two-pack of Rao's marinara sauce into the aluminum crossbar of a beach chair that also happened to be in the trunk. One of the jars shattered on impact, leaving a horrific mess of mixed broken glass and red sauce. The sauce and glass were even running into the area where the hatch closes, and spilling out onto the bumper. People were walking by and generally giving me the "sucks dude" look. At some point a Costco employee collecting carts offered to bring me a trash bag. I hastily started picking up the glass shards and sauce with a blanket that was also in the trunk. When the employee returned with a trash bag, I just threw the blanket into the trash, cleaned up with some paper towels he brought, and headed home. When I told my wife what happened, she informed me that the "blanket" was actually a hand-made quilt from one of her best friends that she'd owned for years and possessed considerable sentimental value. I felt terrible, and she was pissed at my oversight and lack of thinking. I went into the other room, called the Costco, and explained what happened. I knew it was a long shot, but being familiar with their excellent record of customer commitment, I thought maybe the quilt could still be located. After a brief hold, I was told the quilt would be waiting for me at the customer service counter. I immediately left to retrieve it. I asked how I could recognize the associate who dug through the trash to find it, and they had me fill out a card and put it into a drop box. It was all I could do. My question to you is: what is the most mind-blowing customer service experience you've ever had at a chain? - Chris in PA

One of the most fascinating books I’ve read recently is titled “Swindled: The Dark History of Food Fraud” which is a nonfiction account of how human beings have tried to trick our fellow humans into eating non food items disguised as food throughout human history. This has been done for a variety of reasons, from stretching scarce ingredients, to outright poisonous fraud to cut corners (like subbing lead dust for flour in bread 😬) So my question is has anyone on the Doughboys crew experienced their own encounter with food fraud? When you have a full plate of food with a variety (protein + several sides), do you ever form “the perfect bite” often mentioned on YouTube videos (ie small portion of protein + small bit of sides on one forkful)? Hey all! I've always wondered if there were any odd childhood food combos that have stuck with you over time? For me, I put cinnamon apple sauce on top of my grilled cheese, and I used to squeeze orange slices on my school pizza. Thank you all for such a wondefully terrible podcast!

A few years ago my wife and I were vacationing in Amsterdam with our friends. One of our friends has family there and we were invited over for dinner. We had been enjoying ourselves possibly a little too much and were really looking forward to a nice relaxing home cooked meal. The lady of the house told us we would be having lasagna and we couldn’t have been happier. When dinner time came and we were seated at the table she presented the main course and said “here you are, lasagna… with BANANAS AND RAISINS”. Yes, it was a normal lasagna but also with bananas and raisins added. It tasted exactly how you’d imagine. My question is, what’s the strangest, most unnecessary addition to a classic dish you’ve ever had?

What's one food that you used to like but you've had it so many times, that even after a few bites you get sick of it? For me, I'd say rice-a-roni. I've eaten it so many times growing up that it isn't palatable anymore.

I’ve noticed all these fast food places offering options for pets in recent times in an attempt to make us believe these corporations have humanity and care for their customers (the pup cup from Starbucks, for example). How about an entire fast food chain that is ONLY for pets, all food items are meant only for animal consumption, except for the “pup cup” version for human owners. What would the human treat be at the dog/pet fast food chain?

Hey Gang! Cats included. With the holidays coming up I was wondering if you have any favorite holiday foods or memories? For me it was my moms quiche which she would make every Christmas morning. During the pandemic and I couldn’t go home I made it at my place and it helped cheer up a mundane holiday break (which I had Covid for but that’s a whole other thing.) Newish listener and just want to say your podcast brings a ton of cheer and laughs (even to my wife who I will repeat things from your show which make me sound insane. But hey even she had to admit the impossible whopper is a game changer)
